Human Resource Development Minister of State, Mahendra Nath Pandey shared this information in a written reply in Lok Sabha that candidates who want to apply for National Eligibility Test (NET) and belong to SC/ ST/ OBC category must have minimum 50% marks in their masters.
It has become compulsory for SC/ ST/ OBC category belonging candidates that 50% marks in Master’s degree from recognized institutions are eligible for appearing in the National Eligibility Test (NET).
The UGC 4th Amendment, Regulations, 2016 prescribe 5 per cent relaxation in minimum eligibility marks of 55 per cent marks for candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories for direct recruitment to teaching positions to maintain of standards in higher education. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) categories, who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination from universities or institutions, recognized by UGC, are eligible for appearing in NET, Mahendra Nath Pandey said.
HRD Department has stated that a School volunteer program that was launched in July, 2005 and in this Vidyanjali Program and large number of schools have registered with Vidyanjali applications.
2084 apps have been downloaded and 1216 volunteers have logged in and registered for 815 activities in various schools, HRD said.
