Designation:

1. IBPS Clerk:

 

After getting the provisional allotments, IBPS Clerks must join the allotted bank within the given time duration. Thereafter, the respected banks provide them a training about the tasks that they need to perform while working as Bank Clerks.

Those who complete their training successfully will be posted to the different branches of the concerned bank to survive and complete their next two years of probation.  So, initially, IBPS Clerks are posted at Junior Level and after completing their 2 years of the probation period, they can be promoted to the upper level.

2. SBI Clerk:

SBI Clerks are initially designated at Junior Level Grade and after completing their 6 months of training, they can be promoted to the Officer Level. To get the officer grade, they must qualify the Internal Exam conducted based on the structure decided throughout all the branches of the bank.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Clerical staff are considered an integral part of the bank workforce as they are responsible for almost every task. The responsibilities of a clerk remain similar in SBI banks and IBPS Participating banks. Lets’ have a look at the Clerks’ Tasks & Responsibilities below –

1. Single Window Operator (SWO)

To acknowledge the received emails.

Issue the Receipt of cheques, drafts, cash, dividend warrants, pay orders, bills, pre-signed drafts, gift cheques, travelers’ cheques and bank orders etc.

Delivery of cheque books.

Recounting of currency notes by cash department staff.

Approving and the cash payment of all cheques/ withdrawal forms/ bankers’ cheques/ gift cheques etc.

Maintaining the record of all the transactions.

Handling Computers based tasks.

2. Head Cashier (HC)

Greets Customers and Solve their Money related Problems.

Holds the Bank’s Cash, Keys, and other Important Data at a safe place.

Keeps track of all the money transactions.

Verifies the vernacular signatures/endorsements.

Provides training to newly joined Cashiers.

Countersigns cheques, drafts, payment orders, deposit reaccepts.

Attends the Government Treasury work.

3. Special Assistants (SA)

Looks after the work of other clerks and sub-staff.

Passes independently, manually or online, cash instruments.

Clears and transfers the cheques & vouchers.

Processes vouchers, checks, drafts, mail transfers, pay orders, non-payment advice, inter-branch fate calling advice, bill schedules, demand notices, statement certificates etc.

Checking, manually or online, current, savings and other accounts.

Customer Support. Explaining them about the features and products offered by the bank.

Checking the Coding and Decoding of Telegram.

4. Universal Teller (UT)

Receives Cheques/ Withdrawal Forms/ Demand Drafts/ Bankers’ Cheques, Process.

Verifies Customers Account Details.

Receives Cash and Signs on Counter Slips/ Acknowledgments.

Maintain and Manage Records, Tally Cash and Hand Over Remaining Cash to Head Cashier and Generation of Relevant/ Required Reports.

Update Pass Books.

Prepares print and issue remittance instruments (like) DD/MT/BC and sign them independently.

5. Agricultural Assistants

Assist in the bank’s operations for agricultural development and financial assistance to small enterprises such as vegetable/fruit vendors, artisans, self-employed persons etc.

Distribute and collect application forms and assist the farmers/small borrowers in filling up the forms.

Scrutinize application forms, farm plans etc. to ensure that applications are complete in all respect.

Take necessary steps to ensure that the periodical details, as called for, are received from the farmers/small borrowers in time.

Stay connected with Farmers to help them with correct solutions.

Verify farms and the required machinery & equipments.

Verify proper utilization of the bank’s loans or the progress in work in respect of which loans are granted and to furnish reports on such verifications.

Apart from all the above responsibilities, sometimes the Clerk also performs as a telephone operator & stenographer.

Bank Details & Job Locations!

IBPS is the self-recruitment agency that conducts the exam for the recruitment in 23 Public Sector Banks except SBI. Whereas SBI is a banking branch itself! It conducts its own recruitment exam to fill up the vacant seats at its various branches & associate banks like – State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore. These banks have been merged from April 2017.

Note:

1. Apart from the above-mentioned 19 IBPS Clerk Participating Banks, the candidates who wish to apply for Rural Regional Banks may get job postings at any of the branches amongst 82 RRB’s.

2. SBI is considered as the Largest Bank of India with more than 22,500 branches across the world. Those who wish to get into the State Bank of India as Clerk Position have more than 22,500 options for job postings.

Transfer Policy

For SBI Clerk:

 

The candidates who have been posted as Junior Associate through the recruitment exam can be transferred only after completing 5 years of service.

The candidates who have been selected under special recruitment drive conducted in Tura and Kashmir Valley & Ladakh will be eligible for transfer policy after serving 8 years in SBI.

Junior Agriculture Associates will continue in rural/semi-urban branches till they reach Scale V.

2. For IBPS Clerk:

A clerk after serving more than 5 years in a branch may be transferred to other branches in the same city/place.

In case there are no other branches in the same city, then a clerk after 5 years can be transferred outside the place but within 40/100 km.

An IBPS clerk after serving more than 10 years in a city/place, he is liable to transfer to any place outside the city, but within 40/100 km.

Note: On transfer, the employee may immediately Apply for transfer to the previous Branch or branches nearer to that branch.

Who cannot avail the Periodical Transfer Policy?

Male Employees who are 55 years of age and above.

Female Employees who are 50 years of age and above.

Widowers – One term of 5 years’ exemption will be given provided such Employees are having small and school going children.

Physically Handicapped Employees – as per the Government guidelines.

Employees with cardiac ailment who have undergone by-pass surgery / open heart surgery up to three years from the date of surgery and those affected/ suffering from paralysis.

Employees suffering from cancer and kidney ailment involving dialysis.

Employees having school going mentally retarded children – as per the Government guidelines.

Sports persons actively representing the Bank’s team at State and above level.

These exempted categories of Employees, however, are liable to be transferred among the branches / offices within the same place /center.

The candidates who get selected for the position of SBI Clerk must survive for 6 months of training period to get their employment confirmed in the State Bank of India.

The 1st promotion can be made after completing 2 to 3 years in SBI.

The promotion for SBI Clerk can be done in two ways – ‘In-Cadre Promotions & Officer Cadre Promotions’.

On the qualification of written test, A clerk can be promoted to the position of Trainee Officer.

2. Based on the JAIIB, CAIIB qualification, and Graduation + Post Graduation Mark sheets, the Clerks can be promoted to the position of Trainee Officer or PO.
