So, you’ve just bought a Camera and camera lenses  and are excited to start using it! Congratulations. But in order for you to make good use of that device, you’ll need to set it up correctly.

What You Need To Know

Your camera doesn’t have to be new for you to set it up. All cameras need to be set up in one way or another. For instance, you may need to give it a battery charge – and so forth. The following steps will be of great help.

Step One

Assuming that your battery is fully charged, go ahead and turn your camera on. As you do that, your camera’s system might prompt you to set the time and date. If that’s the case, go ahead and do so. It’s always important to have the correct settings at all time.

Step Two

Make sure your camera’s memory card is at its slot. If it’s not there yet, be sure to find it and insert it. The memory card is simply a plastic card that’s usually marked SDXC or SDHC, somewhere. Once your card is properly slotted in, you may be prompted for format it.

Step Three

The next crucial step is to familiarize with the Mode dials.  Most cameras usually come with options that include P, A,S and M. Some cameras also have the Auto mode.

If you’re new to cameras and don’t want the stress of finding the right mode, we’d recommend you stick to the “Auto Mode.” Otherwise, the P, A, S, and M modes work as follows.

P – Allows you to decide the ISO setting (light sensitivity) and whether to use the flash or not

A – This is the Aperture Priority which allows you to adjust the size of the aperture

S – Shutter Priority mode allows you to adjust the shutter speed of your device

M – This refers to your camera’s exposure mode and it helps control your camera’s elements of exposure (manually)

Step Four

Confirm that your white balance and ISO are suited for your style of shooting. If not sure, you may leave the settings are they are until you find a professional to help you adjust them.

Step Five

It’s important to make sure your camera’s AF system is activated. AF simply stands for Auto Focus. This comes in handy in helping you capture awesome, quality shots.
