- Today (8th March) is International Women’s Day.
- This day is observed to recognize women for their achievements without regard to divisions.
- The first National Women's Day was observed by the American Socialist Party on February 28, 1909.

- India and Pakistan today agreed on a proposal suggested by the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to release each other's mentally challenged, women and elderly prisoners above the age of 70.
MOUs & Agreements
- The Union Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy between India and Hellenic.
- This MoU envisages establishing a Joint Working Group to review, monitor and discuss matters relation to areas of cooperation.
- The MoU aims for exchange of expertise and networking of information.
- The Union Cabinet has also approved signing of Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement between India and France.
- This agreement will be signed during forthcoming state visit of French President to India.
