Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Benefit of doubt — on Aarushi murder case probe and trial"
  • Benefit of doubt - to treat someone as if their behaviour is honest or correct, even though you are not certain that it is
  • Probe - an attempt to find out the truth about an issue
  • Trial - process of examining a case in a court of law and deciding whether someone is guilty or innocent
  • Verdict - an official judgment made in a court
  • Acquit - to state officially that someone is not guilty of the crime they were accused of
  • Domestic worker - a person who is paid to help with cleaning and other tasks in a person's home
  • Merely - used for emphasizing that something is small or unimportant
  • Indictment - an official statement accusing someone of committing a serious crime, or the document with which this is done
