Starbucks Odyssey, the coffee company’s new Web3 rewards platform based on the Ethereum sidechain network Polygon, is now available to the public. And the business claims that demand for the platform has been “unprecedented” so far. Starbucks debuted the platform for an initial set of beta testers picked from its waitlist on Thursday.

Additional testers will be introduced to the platform in January 2023, with increased capability and access coming early the following year. Starbucks Odyssey, which was first revealed in September after months of teasing, expands on the company’s current Starbucks Rewards program but with a Web3 twist.

Users may earn points by buying food and drinks in stores. Further they can participate in Odyssey smartphone app activities, including quizzes and other digital experiences.

Completing activities and accumulating points gets users “Journey Stamps,” tokenized into NFT collectibles on Polygon. These stamps, which highlight the 51-year-old coffee juggernaut’s history, may be collected and ultimately exchanged.

The stamps and points may also be used to access

• rare experiences such as online drink-making workshops,
• events at Starbucks’ flagship Reserve Roastery locations, or
• even a trip to Costa Rica’s coffee estate.

Starbucks Odyssey will offer an NFT marketplace powered by Nifty Gateway in 2023, allowing users to buy and trade Journey Stamps and acquire limited-edition NFTs made in partnership with corporate partners. According to the corporation, funds from those NFT sales will be used to give to charity organizations.
