Importance of Sports in the School Curriculum For All Round Development of Your Child

Education today has become lopsided. A typical scenario is like this: Your child wakes up, gets ready, and goes to School for classes that last through a major part of the day. After coming back home it is time to go for tuition classes to then return and complete homework. Physical activity is at a minimum.

A busy day to day academic schedule without physical activity negatively impacts the all-round development of a child. There may be no opportunities for your child, or even the time, to mix with other children in the neighborhood and play. This is why sports in the school curriculum is so important. It ensures the well-being of your child.

Sports important for physical health

Physical activity is important for health. It is necessary to strengthen muscle mass and to promote bone growth. Engaging in sports builds stamina and endurance that will help students to withstand the rigor of studies.

Sports important for mental health

Physical activities like jogging or field sports like hockey and football involve strenuous activity. This promotes and improves blood circulation. Engaging in such physical activities helps children with mind-body coordination, better balance, and flexibility as well as problem-solving skills. Their focus and concentration powers increase. Children learn about teamwork and get disciplined too.

These activities may not be available in a normal, everyday environment. Today, most people live in apartments and lead isolated lives. In addition, there is a lack of open spaces for children to come together and play. It is up to the school authorities to make sports a part of the school curriculum and devise programs that will devote at least a half-hour or more each day for physical activities.

Not all children have the same preference or inclination when it comes to engaging in physical activities. Therefore, schools need to implement programs that involve wide-ranging sporting activities.

Variety of choices

It is not possible to include all sports but schools can include common physical activities like gymnastics. Basketball, football, and hockey are intense physical activities that can be made available within the school premises.

Some students may like to swim and others may like skating. When all these are available, it becomes easy for students to pick the activity that they like and in which they are likely to excel. Having a coach for each type of activity is essential to nurture and train students and help them enhance their talent. Chrysalis High is one such school that emphasizes sports as part of the overall education.

When such sporting activities are available within the school and are part of the curriculum no student can avoid it. Not everyone takes to jogging and will consider it a chore, but when there are so many different options, they will select one that they like. Interest leads to more commitment. It is likely that some will excel with coaching and go on to become State or National level players. This can be an avenue to make more friends and cement relationships that last for life.

Children are naturally active and want an outlet for their energy. If options are available then they are likely to engage in sports where they can interact with peers. It is far better than playing video games or watching television. The foundation laid during childhood will make for a healthy adult life too. Chrysalis CHAMP program makes sports a part of the curriculum from Grade 1.
