What is National Security Law (NSA)
The National Security Act-1980 is a law to give more power to the government for the security of the country. This law empowers the central and state government to detain any suspected citizen.
Know when this law was made
Many types of laws have been made in the country. These laws are applied in different situations. One of them is Rasuka i.e. National Security Act. It was built on 23 September 1980 during the government of Indira Gandhi. This law is related to giving more power to the government to provide the security of the country. This law empowers the central and state government to detain suspects.
Which civilians can be caught
- If the government feels that a person is preventing them from doing the tasks that ensure the security of the country, then they can be detained.
- If the government feels that a person is obstructing them in running the law and order, they can order to take them into custody. The District Magistrate, Commissioner of Police, State Government can also use this law within its limited scope.
How many months in jail
Under the National Security Act-1980 (NSA), any suspect can be kept in jail for 12 months without any charge. The state government is required to inform that a person has been detained under the NSA.
A person detained under the National Security Act can be held for 10 days without framing charges against him. The detained person can appeal before the Advisory Board of the High Court but he is not allowed to have a lawyer during the trial.
