Over 950 teachers of Varanasi region of KV’s stage their protest, over 350 from Nine KV’s of Allahabad

ALLAHABAD: Over 950 teachers, working in 36 odd Kendriya Vidyalaya’s under Varanasi region joined their counterparts across the country to protested against the HRD ministry, on Thursday. Organsied under the banner of AIKVTA (All India KV Teachers Association), the protesters included over 350 teaches employed in the Nine KV’s of Allahabad.

To mark their protest, the teachers sported black ribbon while performing their routine duties. Thereafter, after the school was over, these teachers sat on dharna and observed a half an hour Silent Protest.

The protest was observed peacefully in all the schools of the Varanasi region including the KV’s of the Allahabad district. Teachers of KV New Cantt, Bamrauli, Manauri and other participated in the protest. Although this was a silent protest, but after the half an hour long silent protest, the teachers discussed among themselves the issues regarding their demands and also the plan for moving into the second phase of their protest.

The regional secretary of AIKVTA, YN Singh said that the protest by the teachers was part of their protest in respect to their demands that have been send to MHRD and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) from time to time.

Besides, a representative of the association handed over a memorandum to the regional office (RO’s) at Varanasi regarding the demands that has been put forth in front of the government.

“Our demands include implementation of the modified assured career progression scheme (MACPS) which surprisingly Sangathan has implemented for the non-teaching staff whereas the teachers have been deprived of the same”, said Singh. Likewise, other demands include stopping harassment of female teachers, bias in providing the facility of CGHS and extending the service length of the National awardee teachers, he added.

The protest by the association was observed in all the 1200 odd KV’s in the country and the teachers participated in large numbers to convey their strong message to the government that it should cater to our demands which are genuine and long pending, said Singh.
