Before knowing how to calculate maturity value of SBI fixed deposit, let’s learn what actually is Fixed Deposit account.  In fixed deposit account, a lump sum is deposited for a specified time period i,e 1 year, 5 year or 10 year. The depositor is not allowed to withdraw the  money before the expiry of the specified period but the depositor is given an advantage that he can borrow money against security of the fixed deposit. At the end of specified period the depositor may renew the deposit or may withdraw the money along with accrued interest. High rate of interest is paid on fixed deposit account. The actual rate of interest varies with the period of the fixed deposit. Longer the period of fixed deposit, higher the rate of interest earned. Fixed Deposit account is also called ‘Time Deposit’ or ‘Long term Deposit’. Banks do not provide any cheque book or pass book facility on fixed deposit account.

Visit sbi fd calculator under, principal column enter the lumpsum amount that you wish to invest in the Fixed Deposit. In Duration, column select number either in years or days till you want the FD to continue. Annual rate of interest, Select the current interest rate allowed on fd by moving the slider to the right. As per SBI latest source, Interest rate of 5.30% p.a is offered on FD for duration of 3 years to less than 5 year and interest rate of 5.40% p.a is offered on FD for duration of 5 years to less than 10 years.
