Tonight’s game between Los Angeles Clippers e Sacramento Kings was especially awaited for Russell Westbrook’s debut in his new jersey. The point guard started in the quintet, finishing with 17 points and 14 assists. The Clippers, however, lost after two OTs, in a game that featured the second-highest number of total points scored by the two teams in NBA history. In fact, it ended with a record score of 175-176, behind only the 184-186 of a Nuggets-Pistons in 1983 (on that occasion it even went to the third OT).
Clippers and Kings ended regulation time tied 151-151, then Scored 11 points apiece in the first OT. It was eventually De’Aaron Fox who decided the game with a mid-range jumper with 36″ left in the second OT. The MVP of the game, however, went to Malik Monk, scorer of a career-high 45 points, which is also a season record for a player coming off the bench. Both the Clippers’ 175 points and the Kings’ 176 are new franchise records, with LA also setting the one for most triples scored with 26.
Looking at the Top 5 NBA games with most Points Scored, only two came in the 2000s: this one and a 2019 Hawks-Bulls game that ended 161-165. Third was Spurs-Bucks in 1983, which ended 171-166, and fifth was Nuggets-Warriors 158-160 in 1990.
