Where to Study: India or Abroad?

There was a time when going to study in a Foreign country was not possible but now, students from all across the world with different cultures and ethnic backgrounds are going for Education Abroad. Ranging from Research, curriculum, hands-on training, education system etc., there are a lot of things that one considers when comparing education at home or a foreign country.

It is interesting to note that India and China are amongst the top 2 countries in terms of international student enrollment in the universities present all across the globe. The decision of studying abroad can take students’ career altogether in a different direction and it is important to take into consideration a lot of things while making the final decision.

One needs to identify the reason behind studying in a foreign country. As long as the motivation lies in a course or a program, one must definitely go for it. There have been instances where students have gone abroad because of travelling or peer pressure, which in the long run, does not pay off well.

Every country has its education system depending upon the founding principles and pillars of the country, with the aim to bring in discipline and creativity in the human mind. It is important to know that the Indian education system is more theoretical and there aren’t many resources to cater to the needs of the growing world. On the other hand, the education system in foreign lands is more flexible and the career opportunities abroad are varied.

There was a time when students used to fly abroad only for management courses. More and more fields have gained traction such as architecture, science, engineering, fashion etc, to cater to the needs of the students with a variety of interests.

When it comes to the disciplines that require extensive research-oriented education, foreign institutes have been provided with many prestigious awards, making them stand out. When it comes to India there a lot of things that need to be worked upon i.e. funding, flexibility, global knowledge etc.

One must be ready to think at least 10 years in advance in making the decision whether to stay in the home country or not. One needs to carefully evaluate if one would be coming back to the home country after education gets completed or staying abroad to continue life over there.

Everyone knows that studying abroad is expensive and one must evaluate the cost vs. return on investment, and then take the decision. The opportunities that will open up after having completed the degree or program abroad could be immense and one needs to take that into consideration.

In some of the foreign countries, there is an option to switch subjects while they are studying which is not the case in the Indian education system. The exposure that one gets in foreign universities is immense whereas that is not the case in Indian universities due to lack of funds and resources.

Courses and programs available in Indian Institutes are very limited whereas that is not the case when it comes to international universities. Internships and job opportunities are excellent in foreign universities whereas only top colleges.
