Bonfire night silhouette sand art

Bonfire night silhouette sand art

This idea satisfied both mine and Miss N’s current likes – paper cutting for me, and Sand Art for Miss N!

You will need

Pencil

Black card

Scalpel (and cutting mat for safety) or scissors

Sticky back plastic

Sand in various colours

I drew two designs (one bonfire, one fireworks) onto the card, and cut them out.  You could get your child to draw the design if you wanted, and then cut it out for them.

Cut the sticky back plastic to the same size as your card, and stick it on.  For a best end result, make sure that the side of the card with any pencil marks on is the side not stuck to the sticky back plastic, as this will then be the back of your picture.

Use your fingers to take a pinch of sand, and sprinkle it onto sticky spaces in your design.  Apply a generous layer to make sure all the gaps are filled, and press it down with your finger to help it stick.

Once all your design is filled in with sand, tip the excess sand off.

Your picture is finished!  We have stuck ours onto the window, as it gives a stained glass effect and makes the pictures glow.   They’re great for brightening up a room as the darker winter nights draw in!
