Matsya University currently known by the name of Raj Rishi Bhartrihari Matsya University, Alwar is a public university which was come to existence on 23 august 2012 through the Matsya University Act, 2012 No. 29. The university name was changed into Raj Rishi Bhartrihari Matsya University, Alwar on 04 July 2014 by notification No. 2 (14) Vidhi /02/2014 of state Government.

At this time the temporary campus of the university is situated at Girls Hostel Building of BSR Govt Arts Collage, Alwar but later it was moved into its permanent campus situated at Village Haldeena Tehsil Malakhera which is in under construction. Many law colleges, Private Academic Colleges, B.ed colleges and various UG/ PG colleges are affiliated with the university. It offers many under graduate and post graduate courses which are listed on the site www.rrbmuniv.ac.in.
