The Importance of Drinking Water for your Immune System

The human Body consists of around 70% water and drinking sufficient water on a regular basis is important as it is the only way to keep your bodily fluids balanced, and this is vital for your good health.

The Human Body has its own “army” to fight off invaders in the form of viruses, bacteria and other toxic disease-causing microbes called pathogens, but your Immune system needs water to function optimally.

Your immune system is made up of a network of special cells, proteins, tissues, and organs. The largest organ in the human body – the skin – forms a waterproof barrier that prevents pathogens from entering the body, and your stomach produces acids that help kill many of the bacteria found in food; both of these are also part of the immune system.

Another big part of your immune system is the lymphatic system which forms a defence against infection and removes toxins from the blood.

Nutrients and blood cells are also transported throughout your body via your lymphatic fluid, which your body cannot produce without sufficient water. If your body cannot manufacture lymph, your immune system will be compromised and your body will be unable to fight off disease.

Water ensures that all of your body’s systems are functioning properly; it helps oxygenate your blood and is also vital to you kidneys, which require water in order to flush the toxins out of your body. Water provides the medium for biochemical reactions within cell tissues. Your brain is around 90% water, which it requires in order to send electrical signals and messages throughout your body.

Drinking water keeps your eyes and mouth moist and helps your eyes and mouth to repel dirt, dust and parasites that might cause infection. A strong immune system also requires adequate nutrition, which can only be obtained via well-digested food, which requires sufficient water.

The immune system functions best when your muscles and organs are functioning at their best, so make sure that you drink water regularly throughout the day.
