When my inquiry was replied to almost immediately by Aaron, I already knew that I would enjoy my stay at Helen’s “Rooms with a View” in West Moonah, Hobart. Aaron obviously took pleasure at helping his mum respond to queries in her absence, as evidenced by his cheerful and friendly replies. But it also bespeaks of the seriousness that Helen takes in answering queries in a timely manner about her accommodation. The factor that tipped in favour of my decision of booking Helen’s place though, was her cat. I felt that the stay would only be complete if we could stay at a place with a cat, as my wife is really a cat person.
Located at the end of a cul-de-sac on a quiet street in West Moonah, the place wasn’t difficult to find. Helen made sure she was home to meet us when we arrived. As it happened, on the day that we checked in, Helen’s new puppy, Ruby – a mini dachshund, just arrived that very morning. And with cats, jealousy is innate in them. The prospect of sharing her owner’s affections with a stranger and with a dog at that, definitely did not sit well with Millie, the cat. And so, we were introduced firsthand to Helen’s ‘domestic troubles’.
Although lacking a kitchen in the unit, Helen kindly provided guests with an induction stove and pots and pans in the laundry/pantry area, should they decide to make a simple meal. But the place already has more than ample amenities to keep us happy for the duration of our stay. It has a separate living room apart from the bedroom, a small pantry with everything you need for breakfast and even a spa bath (jacuzzi bathtub)! It was certainly more than what we asked for. Everything was spick and span but with the warmth and comfort of a home.
As promised, we had a nice view from Helen’s place. We also had access to the outdoor patio with an even better view over the city. But it was too cold and windy then and so we didn’t stay out long.
Helen was very helpful with information on where to shop and eat. She introduced us to Fish Frenzy as well as Barilla Bay Restaurant, both of which were excellent recommendations. And prior to our arrival, Helen made sure we made a detour to Richmond, a historic town in Tasmania. She also gave us clear directions to her place, which we found immensely helpful.
We certainly enjoyed our stay with Helen: her nicely appointed place and her warm hospitality wrapped up our final stop in Tasmania nicely and made our vacation all the more wonderful and memorable. Given the opportunity, we hope to stay at Helen’s again the next time we’re in Tasmania.
