The Philippine Men’s National Basketball Team is one of the dominant forces in the area of basketball in the previous century. The team were winning consecutive Asian titles in the 1960s and 1970s. The team even won third place in the World Championships, an equavalent of FIFA World Cup for football. But as the other neighboring countries improved, the now alternatively called “Gilas Pilipinas”, is now in the lower pecking order in the list of the best teams.
There is a slight resurgence of Gilas in the last few years after the basketball honchos in the country decided to get serious about getting the Philippines back to one of the best international teams in the world.
