Hong Kong Palace Museum

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a planned museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District. It will display artifacts of Chinese art and culture from the imperial collections of the Palace Museum. It is said that most of the artifacts have never been exhibited in Beijing which will bring surprise to visitors of HKPM.

The 7,600-square-metre gallery space is dedicated to showcase gold, bronze and jade items, paintings, and ceramic objects, as well as displays on life in the Imperial Court. Other museum facilities include a 400-seat lecture theatre, activity rooms, a restaurant and shops.

The design of Palace Museum Hong Kong reinterprets classic Chinese visual and spatial aesthetics in a modern way. The concept of linked courtyards will be translated into a vertical series of atriums that lead visitors upwards. The main building of HKPM will be in a shape of an inverted trapezoid, looking like a giant rectangular Chinese ding.

The ground-breaking ceremony took place in May 2018 and the Museum is expected to be completed in 2022. Stay tuned for the next update.
