Sam Hunt - South Island Tour - October 2014

Poet, raconteur and Kiwi legend, Sam Hunt is touring the Cook Strait South area of the South Island in October 2014, and Omega Rental Cars, along with Interislander and Havana Coffee Works are proud to be in support.

Pre-eminent NZ poet, Sam Hunt, was born at Castor Bay in 1946. These days, home-base is Kaipara Harbour – “five/ gunshots from humanity”

As well as doing his acclaimed solo shows, Mr Hunt has worked with various musicians –Warratahs, Split Enz, Gareth Farr, NZSO – to name but a few.

In 1986, Sam was awarded a QSM; in 2010, a Companion of the NZ Order of Merit (CNZM). He was further festooned in 2012 with the Prime Minister’s Poetry Award. All honours were for “his services to poetry”.

Get along and see this spellbinding, inimitable performer if you’ve seen him a hundred times before – or never in your life.

You go to see Sam Hunt perform his road-songs, because this is what he does, this is who he is. He is, in that very sense, poetry itself. In his own words, and with his own maxim:

“Tell the story, tell it true – charm it crazy”
