NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Dec. 13, 2016 - Winter In New Braunfels! When it gets too cold and you're looking for an escape – check out New Braunfels, Texas. It's off the beaten track, but easy to get to and full of outdoor fun under sunny skies. The average temperature from December through March is 65 degrees Fahrenheit. It's perfect for exploring the outdoors or relaxing in a cozy craft beer pub. Check out this sample of "wintering" in New Braunfels:

Rainbow Trout!

The Guadalupe River comes out of the deep, dark bottom of Canyon Reservoir. It keeps the river below the dam cold enough year round for rainbow trout to survive and thrive. Texas Parks and Wildlife stocks about 300,000 trout in lakes, ponds and river tailraces.

As a destination adventure, the Guadalupe River fishery is a unique opportunity. It's one of the southernmost trout-fishing streams in the country.  Fishing gear can be as basic as a spin cast rod and reel combo, a small plastic bobber, a fishing weight and a hook. There are outfitters and guides to help you find the right spot or learn how to fly fish.

A complete list of trout stocking dates and locations is available at www.tpwd.texas.gov/troutstocking For details on the Guadalupe River public access leases, see http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/guadalupe.phtml

When you've caught your limit for the day, there's the Texas Hill Country culture to enjoy!

Music and Biergartens!

New Braunfels is the heart of the Texas Hill Country. German immigrants settled here and they loved good music and beer. Iconic Gruene Hall has Ricky Skaggs, Loretta Lynn and Maren Morris coming up. With lots of dance halls and honky-tonks in and around New Braunfels live music is just a two-step away!

According to the Brewers Association, craft beer is a 22.3 billion dollar industry. Some New Braunfels founders were brewers so craft beer is traditional and still popular. Three of 17 craft breweries on the Texas Hill Country Craft Beer Trail are in New Braunfels. Check out New Braunfels Brewing Company, reincarnated from the original 1915 brewery. Drop by the Faust Brewing Company in the historic Faust Hotel, built in 1929. Have a taste of Guadalupe Brewing Company's award-winning Scotch Ale or Texas Honey Ale. The other 12 breweries are within easy day visit tours – and you can leave the driving to someone else!

Live music and craft beer – great ways to relax and toast the day's adventure! Check out Texas Hill Country Craft Beer Tour for more breweries to explore in the Texas Hill Country.

Caving, running, cycling!

In December, go down under and enjoy the magic of Christmas in the Caverns. Natural Bridge Caverns also offers caving adventures. The temperature down there is a sweet 70 degrees year around – you won't need a jacket. In February, run in the only race in the world that starts in the belly of a cave. Enter Texas largest cave and descend down to Pluto's anteroom. Run through a magnificent cave – check out Natural Bridge Caverns Trail Runs 2-5-2017.

Looking for more opportunities to run? There are at least 15 races in New Braunfels and Comal County from December through March. Bring your running shoes, but leave those heavy coats at home! For cyclists, there are at least 20 cycling trails all mapped out for you in and around New Braunfels. And, don't forget to leave that heavy winter weather gear at home – average temperature 65!

Winter in New Braunfels like it's summertime!

There's a lot more to do and see in the Texas Hill Country. The rivers that cool visitors off in the summer, offer kayaking and stand up paddling in the winter. Most of the supporting attractions that thousands enjoy every summer are available year around. New Braunfels offers accommodations from camping to luxury resorts.
