Essential Metro Manila Hotels For Staycation Part 4

Tags: hotel

For 2018, I discovered that some Metro Manila hotels worth booking are new ones while some are upgrades of already glorious structures. My 2017 travels had me visit a lot of near-Metro Manila destinations which required me to zero in on budget types for layovers. In other instances, I was simply booked on business or for a relaxing staycation at a few luxury hotels.

This year's list of essential Metro Manila hotels that I recommend for 2018 is as eclectic as my previous lists -- Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Even if some hotels I stayed in were long-time brands in the hospitality industry or enduring structures of yore, I still managed to experience them as new ones in their renovated versions. As for the rest, they're new players in the metro and I can only be thankful for being a guest at an early stage in their operations.

Check out the following seven hotels that you can consider for a layover, long stay or staycation in Metro Manila:

1. Rizal Park Hotel (Manila)

Unique Quality: The structure used to house the Army and Navy Club that started more than a century ago when Filipinos and Americans actively cultivated relations and, as a result, several important events were held to ascertain them.

Rizal Park Hotel is where old Manila's social life thrived. The 110-room hotel is definitely a historically-inspired space. Declared as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) on April 26, 1991, it fully captures the opulence of urban living in Manila. Whether you're a traveler who has a penchant for nostalgia or a diplomat who's in town for critical business meetings, it has enough grandeur that exudes elegance, luxury, sophistication and comfort for any guest.

2. City Garden Hotel (Makati City)

Unique Quality: It's one of three hotels in Metro Manila that doesn't have service charge in its room rate.

On your next layover or long stay in Makati City, drown out the hype of luxury and consider the authentic value-for-money quality of a satisfying stay at City Garden Hotel Makati. A stay at this 160-room high-rise feels like it's first class when it's actually just mid-range. As a result, guests are rewarded with wonderful surprises from useful room features to elaborate service when least expected. And because there's adequate staffing for its mid-range coverage, staff members are highly responsive and guests tend to feel secure in its home-away-from-home ambiance. If that's not enough balance between affordability and luxury, I don't know what is!

3. City Garden GRAND Hotel (Makati City)

Unique Quality: It has spectacular panoramic views of Metro Manila from its roof deck swimming pool and restaurant.

Located almost across its sister hotel (City Garden Hotel Makati), City Garden GRAND Hotel's amenities evokes the stellar reputation of the City Garden brand which matches its room designs. From the narra hardwood flooring and furnishings to the same spectacular city view, its rooms naturally show credence to what's grand above anything else.

My booked room came with access to hi-speed wireless internet, a spacious bathroom with bathtub, the rooftop pool, gym, buffet breakfast at Spice Cafe and massage by La Fomosa Wellness Spa (in-room or at the spa). During my stay, I found sunset-gazing to be convenient from my room. I simply had to part the curtains and enjoy the vista from my king-sized bed.

4. Hometown Hotel (Makati City)

Unique Quality: Hometown Hotel Makati's Php1,300-worth solo stay rate with complimentary breakfast is always a steal versus another nearby budget hotel's Php2,000++ rate.

Located near the intersection of EDSA and South Super Highway where the Magallanes Flyover can be found, the 19-room hotel is easily a sought-after layover by foreign backpackers who are mostly from European countries, the United States, Japan, South Korea and China.

Local travelers have also recently been catching up in the hotel's guest list because of the latter's affordable room rates that are complemented with decent room features which some of the nearby lodgings at the fringes of Pasay City and Makati City seem to lack. For starters, its spacious bathrooms are equipped with basic rainshowers that can enhance one's relaxing stay. Bed sheets are clean, hallways are well-lit and have CCTVs, room interiors are far from gloomy, hotel security is topnotch and there's a common room for board games and simply hanging out with fellow guests.

My booked room at Tryp By Wyndham

5. Tryp By Wyndham Mall of Asia (Pasay City)

Unique Quality: This seaside hotel's location at the Mall of Asia Complex gives guests tranquil views of Manila Bay from its rooms and restaurant. It's also adjacent to a state-of-the-art events venue called One Esplanade.

With Tryp By Wyndham being present also in other countries like Paris, Madrid, Berlin, São Paulo and New York, the global feel is apparent from the hotel's interior design to the overall look. The Mall of Asia Complex prides itself as a hub for events and the 191-room hotel is a complimenting structure for convenient lodging. It is, after all, located along Seaside Boulevard where the sunset view can be quite enthralling.

6. Golden Phoenix Hotel Manila (Pasay City)

Unique Quality: This hotel is just 20 minutes away from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and a stroll away from the SM Mall of Asia, SMX Convention Center, and Mall of Asia Arena.

Golden Phoenix Hotel Manila is known among its traveling patrons as a reliable lodging in Pasay City because of its well-appointed rooms and endearing staff. Since it opened a few years ago, it has been a favorite home-away-from-home for foreign and local tourists in Metro Manila. With the opening of its new wellness facility (Phoenix Wellness Lounge) and cafe (Ground UP Cafe), a relaxing stay in Pasay City is finally possible under one roof.

My booked room at Go Hotels North EDSA

Go Hotels North EDSA
7. Go Hotels North EDSA (Quezon City)

Unique Quality: Anybody getting off a provincial bus from a long commute up north of Luzon can find it comforting to know that the hotel sits right along EDSA where passengers are routinely dropped off past Munoz. That's how convenient it is to arrive at the entrance of the hotel even if you have not made any prior booking and just intends to book on a whim.

Go Hotels North EDSA has a hotel window in each of its 18-square meter sized room which can be considered as another unique quality for a budget hotel. Also, this Go Hotels branch has bidet-equipped bathrooms which is value for money because typical budget hotels are not even expected to have one.
