Romantic Places near Kathmandu

Nepal is a geographically blessed country, from valleys to the highest peaks, there are so many beautiful places for travellers to quench their thirst. This country is also blessed with diverse climates. Each of the country’s six seasons brings its own excitement, and there are places that are best visited during winter.

Kathmandu Valley offers travelers the opportunity to explore nature. It starts with the spectacular views of Mount Everest and the other Himalayan mountains to the cultural villages. From daring paragliding adventures, to high flying helicopter tours over Mount Everest, soaking in hot springs, taking in cultural performances while sampling traditional cuisine, couples will have a hard time deciding which places to go.

While happy couples will see any corner of the planet. There are certain places near Kathmandu that lend themselves to romance. Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, jetting off on your honeymoon, or merely seeking a getaway built for two.

Nagarkot

Yes, Nagarkot is near kathmandu (around 30 km) and romantic place for couples. It is a quaint little hill town called Nagarkot. During its early days, it served as a fort for the Bhaktapur kingdom but after seeing the beauty of Nagarkot, the royal family turned it into their summer retreat. Still pristine and beautiful, this town serves as a good weekend destination for people from Kathmandu. And for travelers – it is a heaven, especially if you like nature and adventure with that slight touch of heritage.

The whole village seems to be under a cheerful spell for not only will you find people along the roads waving at you but even the brightly colored flowers greeting you. Fresh winds carry the scent of the fields to you and if you are lucky, a bout of rain will allow you to witness the glory of that lush green cover.

Every place has their own special sunrise but the epic passion between the mountains and the sun at Nagarkot makes the Sunrise here extraordinary. The burst of light at the break of dawn kisses those icy peaks, making them blush a gorgeous pink. This strange intimacy between the Sun and the Himalayas fills the valley with passion felt by some as serenity and by the others as a torrid state of their hearts. No words can really describe the feeling for the Sunrises in Nagarkot Valley have to be experienced.

Nagarkot has the best view of the Himalayan range. 8 of the thirteen Himalayan ranges can be spotted here including Mount Everest, Manaslu, and Annapurna range. On a clear day, the Everest appears like a dot but is clearly visible. Dorje Lakhpa with the other Himalayan ranges as seen from Nagarkot. It will the classical beauty of the green valleys enclosed by the snow clad Himalayas that made Nagarkot a better destination to see the mountains.

Kakani

Situated few kilometers away from the capital city of Kathmandu, Kakani is a beautiful places for couples. The place famous for trout and strawberry farming is one of the best places to go on a short hike during the season of strawberries.

Kakani is a small village town located among the hills. On a clear day, one could catch the glimpse of the beautiful Himalayan ranges with the green hills in the front. During the season of strawberries, the place is practically covered with red and green colors of the fruit. It is popular place for strawberry farming as most of the strawberries imported to Kathmandu come from here.

Kakani is also famous for trout farming and as soon as you enter the boundary to this place, you will see the places covered with the pools of water carefully made to assist the farming techniques. The extremely delicious trout fish cuisines available here are quite expensive though.

Also, a farm for producing Himalayan cheese has been set up here after which the place will not only be known for trout and strawberries but also for yummy cow milk fresh cheese. Not only the destination, but the journey itself is exciting. You can go to Kakani on bus, bike, bicycle or simply take a hike. Either way, the road offers majestic views and at the end of it awaits you the beautiful village of Kakani. Although it is not so famous for sunrise and sunset views from here could also be of interest for many.

Dhulikhel

Located just 30 km southeast from Kathmandu, Dhulikhel has become a popular weekend getaway destination. Dhulikhel is one of the most popular places to see the Himalaya panorama. Situated 30 km from Kathmandu at an elevation of 1,550 m you can see the mountain ranges of Langtang, Gauri Shankar, and Numbur.

Dhulikhel is the perfect place to stop to spend the night peacefully while going from Tibet and coming back to Kathmandu. To begin with, the snow-capped mountains with lush greenery on the footsteps seem to be beckoning the tourists to come and spend some time with them.

The oldest area town of Dhulikhel, which is located in the southern end, is another area here that never fails to fascinate tourists. This town area comprises of old Newari houses that are adorned with stunning windows and beautifully carved doors, which bear testimony to the excellent craftsmanship of the local inhabitants of the area, who spent nights and days to create such stunning masterpieces.

Nama Buddha lies about 40 km from Kathmandu and is a Buddhist pilgrim site. Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery is home to around 250 young monks, who will welcome you to join in their morning or evening prayers. The monastery is open to the general public on Saturdays.

Hattiban, Pharping

Located in the hills southwest of the Kathmandu Valley, just a little above Pharping, Hattiban is an adventurer’s heaven. The camping area, made of lush pine trees, is the perfect weekend option for those who want to spend some time in nature.

On clear days, Hattiban offers wonderful views of the Himalayas on the north with a sweeping, spectacular view of the Valley down below. For those who like to hike, you can spend the day hiking to Champadevi (at 2,278 meters) which takes around three hours to reach from Hattiban. Besides offering great walks in nature, the place is also great for rock climbing on natural cliffs, for mountain biking on the trails running through the forest and for visiting some of the nearby monasteries and temples in Pharping and Dakshinkali.

What’s great about this forest is that you’ll find a camping site almost anywhere you turn—without having to pay the fees.

For emergencies, campers can go to the nearby Hattiban Resort, which provides great accommodation and a fine-dining restaurant.

To get there, you have to start from Balkhu and go straight ahead through Chovar and Pharping.
