Bungamati and Khokana Village

The village of Bungamati and Khokana Village itself is most well-known for its Machhindranath Temple, the birthplace of the Red Machendranath. Today, the temple is mainly used by farmers utilizing its large courtyards for drying grain and other grain. After exploring Bungamati, you will visit the traditional Newari village of Khokana.

The Newari people are the original inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley, and here you will still see their age-old methods of harvesting mustard oil before heading back to your hotel.

The rustic Newari towns of Bungamati and Khokana. It’s a unique opportunity to learn about the traditions of the rural residents whose families have thrived here since antiquity. These are the Newars, people who are indigenous to the Kathmandu Valley. Even today they live simply, in much the same way as their forefathers.
