The View – ABC Studios
The View used to be very hard to get tickets for, but I have a feeling they may be a lot easier these days. The all female talk show that first aired in 1997 on ABC and is currently in season eighteen (2014–15), The View is officially the fourth longest running national daytime talk show in U.S. history. Originally conceived by Barbara Walters and Bill Geddes, the all female panel discuss a variety of social and political issues and was a first of its kind. The original panel consisted of Walters, Joy Behar, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos and Meredith Vieira. Since then, its seen a lot of hosts come and go (and a few controversial – that’s you Rosie O’Donnell and Elizabeth Hasselbeck) with Barbara Walters retiring from the show in 2014. And with that, really an end of an era. Since then it’s axed panelists, rehired old panelists and had a lot of internal feuding–apparently.
I grabbed my tickets from the Iota website and was told to show up 2 hours before taping – that’s 9am sharp at the ABC Upper West Side studios! We had ‘Priority’ tickets and were let in the first round – but in the end it didn’t matter as they let the ‘stand by’ ticket holders ahead of us! Like herded cattle we were made to stand in the lobby of the building for almost 2 hours, squished together, sweaty, thirsty and hungry as they make you throw out any drinks or food. Then about a half an hour before the show started Sherri Shepherd came down to meet and greet everyone which was amazing as she was really sweet and gracious even though she’s been fired from the show – and where were you Whoopi?
Finally we were led up to the studio and given a bag of chips and a drink for our wait…or maybe to keep the hungry masses happy. Finally the show began…or at least the warm up show. Their warm up guy, a comedian was hilarious — but very sweaty. He made us laugh even though he was dripping with sweat. And then we were onto the show!
The View – Julie Bowen
All in all, going to see The View was a really cool experience. Visiting the ABC Studios, seeing how the show is produced and shot, checking out a few celebrities and getting to see Ms. Goldberg was worth that hellish wait.
