The Ride – break dancer
The Ride is billed as an interactive entertainment experience where the streets of New York are the stage, and you’ve got front row seats. This 75 minute bus ride takes you through Times Square and most of the hot spots in Midtown through stadium style, side facing seats with a panoramic view of floor to ceiling glass windows. The bus is equipped with state-of-the-art audio/visual technology, including 40 plasma TV screens and over 3000 LED lights. Yes a cool bus, but really worth a million bucks?
The Ride – A ‘street’ rapper
Hosted by two over the top actor/singers whom are apparently trained in improv (according to the website), their cheesy jokes and Broadway numbers were a little too much to take. Then there were the street performances. We were supposed to see 5-7 entertainers or what they call “pop-up presentations” along the 4.2 mile route. But what I got was more amateur than entertaining. The first was some lame guy in Times Square who pretended he was there for New Years Eve. Was he supposed to be a Comedian? Next was a guy standing on the street rapping. Then there was a ballet dancer in full tutu dancing around Columbus Circle. A businessman in a suit decided to bust out some tap dancing moves on 42nd street, and a courier decided to drop his package and start break dancing for us on 3rd Avenue.
The Ride tries to claim that it’s a critically and virally acclaimed attraction. I have to wonder whom these critics are. It wasn’t a very good sight seeing tour and it wasn’t very entertaining. If I were you, I’d save your $75 and take a hop on hop off bus tour and/or splurge for a Broadway Show instead.
