Lviv castles or how to meet a ghost

There are many castles with ghosts in the Lviv region. Is it difficult for you to decide where to go? We will help you. We made a list of the best castles. Choose a route to your taste, schedule a date, book accommodation in Lviv and go ahead!

Olesko castle

The first castle of Ukraine (14 century), which became the museum. The castle had many hosts, survived the raids of the Tatars, Bogdan Khmelnytskyi grew and Polish King Ian III Sobieskyi was born here.
The castle has an active medieval restaurant, museums and a branch of the art gallery. Around the castle – a park with sculptures. There is a monastery next to it.

Schedule: 10:00 – 16:00 every day, except Monday.

Pidhirtsi castle

The castle in Pidhirtsi was considered the most beautiful in Europe in the 17th and 19th centuries. It was even called “Galician Versailles”. Do you remember the ball with the pendants of Three Musketeers? Filmed in this castle!

There is also an alchemical laboratory and a ghost in the castle!

Schedule: 11:00 – 18:00 (in winter – until 17:00, cash at till 16:00), weekend – Monday.

Zolochiv castle

Zolochiv castle – a fortress of the 17th century with a well thought out defense system.
Royal and Chinese palaces are open for review. Chinese – one of three in Europe! Here you can see the golden copy of the crown of Danylo Halytsky.
And toilets of the 17th century with a sewer!

Schedule: 10:00 – 17:00, weekend – Monday.

Zhovkva castle was one of the richest royal palaces in Europe. Hetman I. Mazepa and Tsar Peter I. stopped there. This is one of those castles, which are fortunate – it is restored and brought back to life.
Significant plus of Zhovkva – the absence of crowds of tourists.

Schedule: 10:00 – 17:00 (Sat – 12:00 – 17:00), the weekend is Monday.

The Stradchan Cave underground castle (10 km from Lviv) is one of the holy places of Ukrainian Greek Catholics. This is the second largest underground monastery in Ukraine (after the Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra).

The total length of the passes is 270 m, the depth is 20 m. Be sure to take the flashlight – only the beginning of the caves is lit up.

Schedule: service – 10:00, religious procession – Sat-11:00
