Maslenitsa 2018: where to eat tasty pancakes

Maslenitsa is an ancient Slavic feast. During the week people farewell the winter and meet the spring. All mass celebrations end on a Forgiven Sunday. In 2018, Maslenitsa begins on February 12 and will last until February 18. How and where to celebrate, read in our selection.

Maslenitsa in Pirogovo

Festive celebrations will be held in Pirogovo on February 17-18. Organizers promise to recreate the ancient ritual of Kolodiya, guests will have an opportunity to participate in folk games: competitions on the balance beam, horse riding, tug-of-war, sleigh rides, snow fortress and others. Folklore collectives will perform there, guests will have opportunity to taste, in addition to pancakes, with a variety of goodies. The culmination of the holiday will be the burning of a scarecrow, which personalize the winter.

Varyshska palachinta in Mukachevo

“Varyshska palachinta” is a festival of pancakes, which will be held on February 17-18 in the city park. There will make palachinta (the same pancakes) with various fillings. In addition to the traditional dishes,  the home meal, music and entertainment program will complement the program of celebrations. Have you ever heard of such dishes as: kiflik, banik, gombovtsy and so on? Then come to Mukachevo.

Maslenitsa in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi

Also there will be a traditional celebration of Maslenitsa in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi.  Organizers promise to celebrate in a big way: they will reproduce folk rituals. There will be fun festivities and entertainment. At the fair, guests will be able to taste traditional Ukrainian dishes, as well as to buy products of arts and crafts. The culmination of the festival will be the burning of straw scarecrow.

“Babska Week” in “Mamaieva Sloboda”

Maslenitsa will be celebrated with Ukrainian varenyky with cottage cheese in Mamaeva Sloboda, as it is the main festive dish in Cossack Ukraine. There will be a very colorful atmosphere, which will create a group of girls, musicians and Cossacks. There will be a lot of fun, food and alcoholic drinks, as well as guests will have the opportunity to ride a sleigh and swing.

Maslenitsa in ethnocomplex
“Ukrainian village”

The guests of “Ukrainian village” will also see off winter in the spirit of pagan traditions. There will be a folklore and ritual program of the band “Balamutes” and “Workshop of the Ukrainian holiday” and burning the straw symbol of winter. Also there will be dances, songs, games, a thematic photo zone and delicious treats.

Nalyvka Fest: The great Maslenitsa

“Winter country at Expocenter” with Nalyvka Fest will open their doors for the Maslenitsa. The organizers prepared a large tasting of liqueurs from Ukrainian producers and delicious pancakes, a variety of dishes on the food court, prize draws, the “Drunken Checkers” tournament, competitions for guests and producers, photo zones and entertainment program.
