LoireIf you want to take a trip to Paris but aren’t so sure about rambling around on your own, you should consider joining one of the many tours available. Many of the guides speak English, allowing you to enjoy the culture and understand the fine nuances of this gorgeous city. Here are three different Tour types you don’t want to miss.

Catacomb Tours

While the catacombs are not recommended for small children or those of a nervous disposition, This impressive underground ossuary is not to be missed. Created in 1810, the catacombs were built to solve a problem of overcrowding of the dead. Cemeteries were full, with more dying each day. Bones and skulls line the tunnels in a macabre, beautiful profusion. Do not touch or take anything you see inside. There is a gift shop available at the end of the tour for souvenirs. If you’re able-bodied and not possessed of a nervous nature, you should join one of the many tours available.

Walking Tours

If you’re fit but don’t want to wander around the city alone, a walking tour can be a great option. Many cater to English-speaking visitors, and you won’t miss any of the fantastic sights the city has to offer. Some even take the Metro, which is an essential skill to learn if you’ll be in the city for any length of time. If you want to take a tour to get oriented before going out on your own, a walking tour of the whole city is a great way to get started. Bring a map and make notes for yourself as the tour progresses.

A Day Trip to the Loire Valley

Often touted as one of the best culinary tours of Paris and the surrounding area, the Loire Valley is famed for its gastronomic delights. You can take the train from the inner city out into the valley, then walk or bike your way around. Gourmet food and fine French wines are available around every corner, and there are also gorgeous photo opportunities. If you’re in Paris and want to see something beyond the city boundaries, head to the Loire Valley. The people there are quite used to tourists and many know passing English.

Whether it’s your first time visiting Paris or it’s your first time there alone, joining a tour can help you enjoy the city without feeling lost. Of course, make sure you understand the cost and the whole itinerary before joining any tour.
