Summer is HERE

Summer has arrived in Jackson! It has been quite a few weeks since we have seen anything fluffy and white falling from the skies, the sun is shining far and wide across the Valley. Our April showers brought a multitude of May flowers, and June has been anything but gloomy. Summer is the time to get outside in Jackson. We enjoy every minute of the warm sunshine hiking our mountains, and indulging the indoor and outdoor events that fill our calendars. From the bi-weekly Rodeo, to the Jackson Hole Live concert series, the nightly Town Square Shoot Out to the Fall Arts Festival that marks the slowing of the summer season; whatever the activity locals and visitors are always on the go! New events and shows are added throughout the summer so please be sure to check with our Concierge Team to be sure you don’t miss out on any of our Wild West summer fun.

 

JUNE 14

8:00pm: Grand Teton Music Festival’s Bravo! Summer Kickoff Party! Join Bravo! for the best Summer Kickoff Party in town! This event needs no introduction as its reputation has grown over the years. Check back for more details as they are confirmed.

8:00pm: Contemporary Dance Wyoming- The Meal. Contemporary Dance Wyoming’s (CDW) latest production, Up Close: The Meal, which will be performed JUNE 14th and 15th in the Center Theater. The Meal is an evening-length dance concert originally choreographed by Babs Case in 2008, now re-worked and performed by CDW. The entire work takes place around, on, over, and under a spare wooden table. Solos, duets, trios, and large group pieces feature flowing movement and metaphorical representations of personal journeys finding a place in life, opening your eyes to the world, constant desire for more, playing in life, and finding satisfaction in what you have. At the Center for the Arts.

 

JUNE 15

2:00pm: A favorite summer art series featuring local and national artists painting in Grand Teton National Park, Artists in the Environment, has generated enthusiastic planning commitments on the part of Grand Teton Association and its summer facilitators. At the Craig Thomas Discovery Center, in Moose.

1:00pm: RaptorFest. This year Father's Day is for the birds! Enjoy a fun and feather-filled afternoon of food, music, kids' activities, flighted demonstrations and birds on display at Teton Raptor Center's 2nd annual RAPTORFEST. Admission is free. Tickets will be sold for food, drink and fantastic raffle packages. START Bus shuttles from Stilson, bike or walk. At Teton Raptor Center.

 

JUNE 19

7:00pm: Come listen and celebrate "America's Classical Music" with big band arrangements of iconic Jazz composers such as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Neal Hefti, Chick Corea and other legends of the genre. Free admission. Donations appreciated. At the Center for the Arts.

8:00pm: Tedeschi Trucks Band, the 11-piece ensemble led by husband-wife team Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, have proven themselves one of the hottest, most uplifting acts on the road today. Formed in 2010 when Derek and Susan decided to set aside their successful solo careers and join forces, Tedeschi Trucks Band has since been touring the globe - and accruing fans and accolades in the process. Fronted by Trucks' signature slide-guitar sound and Tedeschi's pliant, honey-to-husk voice, TTB -- as their fans know them -- delivers a hearty roots-rich musical mix with the power to renew faith in live music. The band is currently touring in advance of the release of their second studio album, slated for release in late summer. Their debut album, Revelator, was praised as a 4-star masterpiece by Rolling Stone and won a GRAMMY for Best Blues Album of the Year. At Center for the Arts.

 

JUNE 22

4:30pm: Jackson Hole Wine Auction and Gala. Gather with new and old friends in the shadow of the Tetons for an unforgettable evening of exquisite wine and delectable food. Upon arrival at the stunning Snake River Ranch, sip a glass of champagne, savor the distinctive flavors of the west and bid on an exclusive array of silent auction offerings. Our entertaining auctioneer will round up the crowd and start the bidding for our exciting live auction, held simultaneously with a seated 5-course dinner prepared by famous chefs and perfectly paired with superb wines. With auction lots of once-in-a-lifetime adventure trips and rare wine collections, guests will be waving their paddles competing for the bounty. Following the dinner and auction, dance the evening away to the sounds of the Richard Brown Orchestra. At the Snake River Ranch.

 

JUNE 26

1:00pm: Teton Youth and Family Services Golf Tournament. Helps raise funds for Teton Youth and Family Services, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and families find their way.

Tournament date is JUNE 26th with a pre-registration cocktail event at the Wort Hotel at 5:00pm on JUNE 25^th- $200 per player- limited registrations. At Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis.

9:00pm. James McMurty with His Band. The son of acclaimed author Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove, Terms of Endearment), James grew up on a steady diet of Johnny Cash and Roy Acuff records. His first album, Too Long in the Wasteland (released in 1989), was produced by John Mellencamp and marked the beginning of a series of acclaimed projects for Columbia and Sugar Hill. In 1996, McMurtry received a Grammy nomination for his Longform Music Video of Where'd You Hide The Body. 1997′s It Had To Happen received the American Indie Award for Best Americana Album. At The Pink Garter Theater.

 

JUNE 27

All Day: 21^st Jackson Hole Writers Conference. For 21 years the Jackson Hole Writers Conference has brought together writers from around the country to learn from best-selling authors, as well as editors and agents. This year's conference is no different, with speakers, panels, workshops, and one-on-one manuscript critiques. We pride ourselves on offering an intimate setting in a beautiful place, with the opportunity to share a drink or a walk with other writers. At Center for the Arts.

6:00pm. Music on Main. The Fox Street All Stars, kick off the concert series with their unique version of high-energy funky rock and roll. FSAS has toured the US with legends like Trucks/Tedeschi, Little Feat, Trombone Shorty and Robert Randolph. At Victor City Park.

 

JUNE 28

All Day: 2^nd Annual Outerlocal Summer Games. The Adventure Festival, features running, bouldering, mountain biking and paragliding, not to mention DJs, product demos, clinics, food and libations—plus two free concerts to end the day, all in the heart of America’s quintessential mountain town. At Snow King Mountain.

8:30pm Nightlite Dash. The NightLITE dash is a glow in the dark fun run with an obstacle course where your inner 5 year-old comes alive (or better yet even your 5 year-old's). All you will need is some endurance to run the 5k, courage to run in the dark, a great imagination to come up with the best glow in the dark outfit EVER, and a smile to show through at the end! JUNE 29

All Day: 2^nd Annual Outerlocal Summer Games. 1:00pm. Jackson Hole Park Free for All. The third annual JH Bike Park FreeForAll is exactly what its name says: an afternoon where admission and activities in the JH Bike Park are FREE! Join us from 1-5pm for free Bike Park chairlift rides, mini-clinics with our Mountain Sports School staff, and even free mini-bike rentals! Come for music, Tin Can Cantina taco and margarita specials, raffles and prizes. We're giving away a Scott kid's mountain bike to a lucky participant! Bike park passes and other prizes too! At Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

5:30pm. Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real. This exuberant 24-year old phenom returns to the Tetons with his powerhouse rock n’ roll outfit Promise of the Real to kick off JacksonHoleLive 2013 with a bang.  Come early to watch the Outerlocal Summer Games and hear opening band The Flannel Attractions. At the Snow King Ball Field.

 

JULY 4

All Day.            .

•  8:00-10:00am: Jackson Hole Jaycees Pancake Breakfast - The Jackson Hole Jaycees have been serving a Fourth of July pancake breakfast since 1977. For 34 years, thousands of locals and visitors have gathered on Center Street to visit with friends and support the Jaycees Fire in the Hole Fireworks Show. Expect a hearty breakfast of eggs, sausage, and pancakes to ensure they are well fueled for the many events celebrating Independence Day in Jackson. All profits from the breakfast enable the Jaycees to complete projects like the community fireworks and scholarships for local students. Adult tickets cost $10 and children cost $5.
• 10:30am: Howdy Pardners 4th of July Parade - The annual parade begins on Snow King Avenue from the Rodeo Grounds to Glenwood, continues on Broadway, and ends on Willow Street. Businesses and organizations interested in participating should contact the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, 307.733.3316.
• 2:00pm: The July 4th JacksonHoleLive concert will feature Old Crow Medicine Show, The Young Dubliners, Parker Millsap, One Ton Pig and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra performing live via simulcast from Walk Festival Hall as part of this year's valley-wide expansion of Music in the Hole. Enjoy 8 hours of free, family-friendly music at the base of Snow King, culminating with the Jaycees fireworks display. More information.
• 3:00pm-7:30pm: Music in the Hole 2013 will be held in two locations, the Teton Village Commons and Snow King Ballpark in Jackson. From 3:00-6:00pm there will be pre-symphony entertainment by local groups and popular bands. From 6:00-7:30pm the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra will perform a program of patriotic favorites in Walk Festival Hall with simultaneous broadcast via jumbotrons to both locations. Wyoming Public Radio concert simulcast throughout the state. At 7:30pm popular bands will take the stage followed by fireworks!
• 6:00pm: Town Square Shootout - Watch a lively reenactment of frontier justice on the Jackson Town Square in what is the longest, continuously running shootout show in the country!
• 6:00pm: Red, White and Two! Independence Day Celebrations:  This annual 4th of July celebration features patriotic music performed by the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra in Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village from 6:00-7:30pm. Maestro Runnicles will conduct a program of light classics and patriotic favorites including the 1812 Overture and "Stars and Stripes Forever" plus many more. Donnie Ray Albert, the baritone who wowed the crowd last summer, will be returning. Wyoming Public Media will broadcast the orchestra concert event live for television and radio to be enjoyed by all Wyoming residents and those in neighboring states. After the orchestra concert, Calle Mambo will then take the stage starting at 8:00pm, leading up to the start of the fireworks around 10:00pm. The Jazz Foundation of JH will perform prior to the GTMF concert from 4:00-5:30pm
• 8:00pm: Jackson Hole Rodeo - The rodeo is regularly held on each Wednesday and Saturday during the summer season at the Teton County Fairgrounds. The 4th of July Rodeo is a fine western tradition and a wonderful way to spend an evening as the sun sets over the Teton Range.
• 10:00pm: Fireworks - Enjoy fireworks shows at two locations! Gather at the base of Snow King Mountain and in Teton Village

 

JULY 5 to JULY 26

8:00pm. South Pass! is an epic musical theatrical experience based on the life of mountain man and explorer Jedediah Smith.  Featuring a cast of more than 60 men, women and children South Pass! is coming to Center for the Arts in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Experience the story of the opening of the great American West in a way that will inspire future generations and imprint hearts with historical lore, adventure, and the steel-faced resolve that only a man destined to become a true American hero could display. At the Center for the Arts.

 

JULY 6

8:00am. 1^st Jackson Hole Farmers Market of the Season. The Jackson Hole Farmers Market on Town Square hosts a vibrant farmers market every Saturday beginning July 6, and running through September 21. The market operates from 8:00am to 12 noon on the Town Square and features fresh produce and other fresh food products. In addition to the great food vendors, different local musicians, chefs and valley non-profits are featured each week. Locals and visitors flock to this popular market every Saturday. On Town Square.

 

JULY 10

5:00pm to 10:00pm: Art Across the Universe.

• 5:00pm. Family Public Art | Create a Giant Sundial with Tyler Aiello and Dr. Tyler Nordgren for display outside the Center for the Arts
• 6:00pm. Planetology Exhibit Reception | An Exhibition featuring the work of Monica and Tyler Aiello and Dr. Tyler Nordgren
• 7:30pm. Lecture Series | “Stars Above, Earth Below: A Guide to Astronomy in the National Parks” by Tyler Nordgren  “Terra Sapiens: The Origin & Fate of a Human Planet” by Dr. David Grinspoon
• 9:00pm. Star-Gazing ”SkyParty” with Tyler Nordgren. At the Center for the Arts.

8:00pm. The Hot 8 Brass Band. New Orleans-based, this band has epitomized New Orleans street music for over a decade, infusing their performances with funk and high energy. At Walk Festival Hall.

JULY 11

6:00pm. Music on Main. Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers bring the smoky sweet vocals of Bluhm backed by a big, rocking jam band, continuing the dance party and good times. At Victor City Park.

 

JULY 13

7:00pm.  Free Family Concert in the Center Theater where The House Band of the Universe plays under a planetarium full of breathtaking cosmic visualizations, as Grinspoon narrates the story of the history of the Universe-from the Big Bang to Life of Earth, and everything between. At the Center for the Arts.

 

JULY 14

5:30pm. Steve Earle and The Dukes. This three-time Grammy Award winner is a protégé of legendary songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark. Steve Earle is a master storyteller with 21 writer/performer albums to date and has penned songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, The Pretenders, Joan Baez and countless others. The Mastersons open the show. At the Snow King Ball Field.

 

JULY 15

9:00am-7:00pm. Plein Air for the Park Art Show and Sale. Our professional painters lug their easels all around Grand Teton National Park for two weeks to create an amazing collection of artwork that is on sale in the Moose Visitor Center to benefit art, education, and research in Grand Teton National Park. At the Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center.   

 

JULY 17

8:00pm. Paul Thorn. It has been said that a Paul Thorn concert is like "taking a 6-pack to church," as evidenced by his song "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand." The first thing you notice is the voice, distinctively soulful and funky, the voice of a man who has walked a long, hot span over dusty Mississippi country roads. Thorn is the second biggest thing to come out of Tupelo, MS. At the Center for the Arts.

8:00pm. The Collective. This Nashville-based a capella singing group was a finalist on NBC’s “Sing-Off” and includes Jackson local Isaac Hayden. At Walk Festival Hall.

 

JULY 18

6:00pm. Music on Main. White Water Ramble high octane rocky mountain dance grass that, according to their website, will send your body and soul rushing down the rapids of infinity! At Victor City Park.

 

JULY 19

9:00pm. Blackalicious. Cut through the floss and glitz. On the other side of the hype machine are artists that create because they need to, artists that we listen to because they demand our attention. In a hip-hop career that has stretched past a decade, Blackalicious has earned respect the old-fashioned way--rising through honesty, commitment, and artistry. Now, with "Blazing Arrow", their fourth album and their major label debut, they have achieved their most fully realized album in a consistently ground-breaking discography. At The Pink Garter Theater.

 

JULY 19 to JULY 20

6:00pm. Off Square Theatre Company will present two evenings of outdoor Shakespeare on the Center Lawn and will host actors from New York in a residency.  The program will feature scenes from Shakespeare’s Greatest hits, and debut Off Square’s very own traveling minstrel show starring Jackson’s youth. At the Center for the Arts.

 

JULY 19 to JULY 21

All Day. Jackson Hole Art Fair. Established in 1965, Art Fair Jackson Hole (AFJH) brings diverse forms of art to a community that is rich in western history.  Our summer Art Fairs are family-oriented events that feature up to 170 international, national and local artists, live music, food and snack booths and hands-on art activities.  AFJH attracts enthusiastic members of the public from our immediate community and from across the nation who are interested in supporting the visual arts. Kathy Mattea's concerts present her new and most recent material alongside her Top 20 radio hits: from the signature ballad "Where've You Been?" to the bluesy "455 Rocket" to the iconic "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses."  Long known as an impeccable songcatcher, her 17 albums are woven through with bluegrass, gospel, and Celtic influences, and have garnered multiple CMA, ACM, and Grammy Awards. At the Center for the Arts.

8:00pm. Christopher O’Riley - Out of My Hands. A classical-crossover pianist, Mr. O’Riley’s latest release, Out Of My Hands, includes the music of R.E.M., Portishead, Cocteau Twins, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and more. At Walk Festival Hall.

 

JULY 25

6:00pm. Music on Main. March 4th Marching Band after an extremely popular show last summer, decked in whimsical costumes and combining a big ring circus with modern performances. At Victor City Park.

 

JULY 31

8:00pm. EntreFlamenco Company. Five music and dance artists of this award-winning company from San Antonio, Texas, open the door to the powerful world of flamenco. Not merely a performance, but an experience not to be missed! At Walk Festival Hall.

 

AUGUST 1

6:00pm. Music on Main. Monophonics, San Francisco's premier psychedelic soul and heavy funk band, will cook up a hearty stew of funky rhythms for Music on Main fans. At Victor City Park.

7:00pm. The Hold Steady. The Hold Steady emerged as America's greatest, most thoughtful bar-rock band in 2004, and has since released a string of acclaimed albums—and, maybe more importantly, acclaimed live shows. The band is hard at work on its sixth album, and recently contributed a track to Game Of Thrones. At the Pink Garter Theater.

 

AUGUST 3

5:30pm. Robert Walter’s 20th Congress. Formed to showcase Robert’s composing skills, the 20^th Congress always features an all-star lineup and has become best known for its infectious jazz and funk-filled live performances.  Come early to enjoy the inaugural Snake River Brewing Suds & Sounds Brew Fest! AUGUST 5-10:

Various Times. New York City Ballet- MOVES. This is the fourth year Dancers’ Workshop has created a Summer residence for this legendary Ballet company. Made up of 20 principals, soloists, and corps de ballet, the artistry of New York City Ballet MOVES inspires awe in every performance. We continue to develop our relationship by expanding community access to these world-class artists through performances, master classes, open rehearsals, and special events. In exchange, the New York City Ballet dancers, musicians, and staff who come to Jackson say it is a highlight of their touring schedule every year. At the Center for the Arts.

 

AUGUST 7:

8:00pm. Richard Brown Orchestra – The Way They Were. A rousing tribute concert celebrating the works of some of America’s favorite composers, writers and performers. Dancing is encouraged! At Walk Festival Hall.

 

AUGUST 8:

6:00pm. Music on Main. Ray Wylie Hubbard is an alternative and outlaw country icon from Austin, with a live show that has been described as a church service held at the funkiest roadhouse bar this side of the Mississippi. At Victor City Park.

 

AUGUST 9-11:

All Day. Targhee Bluegrass Festival. "The Grand Targhee Bluegrass festival reminds me of Telluride in the early days. Go there now and beat the crowds." - Tim O'Brien The grandfather of Bluegrass Festivals in the northern Rockies. Don't miss out on 3 days of great music in the most amazing location. Food, beverage and other vendors on site. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets! At Grand Targhee Resort.

 

AUGUST 12

7:00pm. Hootenanny in Concert. Teton County’s weekly all-acoustic folk showcase returns to the Center Theater for its seventh annual all-star special installment, the Hoot in Concert. This in-town version of the long-running Monday tradition of talented pickers features founding performers, long-time stalwarts, special friends and surprise guests. At the Center for the Arts.

 

AUGUST 13

8:00pm. John Butler Trio. In 1998 John Butler was busking on the streets of Fremantle, West Australia. 3500 self funded cassette sales served as the foundation for becoming Australia's most successful independent artist ever. Fast forward to 2011 and his label Jarrah Records has now been responsible for one million sales in Australia. Home to other artists such as The Waifs, Jarrah Records continues to pave the way for independent artists in Australia. At the Center for the Arts.

 

AUGUST 14

8:00pm. Bravo Broadway! Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte, Tony Award® nominee Christiane Noll and star of Broadway and concert stages Doug LaBrecque present an exciting evening of Broadway favorites. At Walk Festival Hall.

9:00pm. Xavier Rudd. Xavier Rudd is back with his #2 ARIA debut album, Spirit Bird.
With an identifiable array of guitars, yidakis (didgeridoos), stomp box and percussion, Rudd's has reintroduced Australians to the sounds and stories of the land's original owners, while introducing the rest of the world to an entirely new sound altogether. Over the course of a decade, he has taken this sound to every corner of the globe; producing seven studio albums, two live albums, multiple ARIA nominations and a global
fan-base of likeminded souls.

From 2002's To Let, his first studio album, through to 2007's White Moth, Rudd gradually refined his globally influenced collage of world music – a matchless mixture of reggae, funk, blues, folk, and nearly every other sort of song with the ability to stimulate people's spirits. AUGUST 15

6:00pm. Music on Main. Vagabond Opera is as fun and entertaining as they are musically gifted, combining vaudeville with incredible talent for a show like no others. At Victor City Park.
