Simple Steps To Making BBQ Pork Jerky aka Bah Kwa (Trial Run)

HERE I GO AGAIN....

I was in First Garden few days ago having breakfast with my ex-colleague.  After our breakfast we walked around a bit to do some street shopping around the area, bought quite a bit of stuff for the coming Chinese New Year and also ended up getting some minced meat from a nearby butcher shop.  For 500 grams of minced meat, it cost RM9.... and what do I need so much meat for?  Yes, hands itchy already... wanted to do some testing on the BBQ Pork Jerky also known as Bah Kwa in Hokkien!

The last time I made Bah Kwa was seven to eight months ago and that was when I was in Sacramento.  I could not remember exactly how it was made... and quickly I searched my own blog for the recipe.... Wanted to do a trial run now before I make it again before my kids come home... hehehee... No-confidence mom is like that.... have to do trial first before the exact day comes!

And so... from this post here, my Bah Kwa is processed....  I followed exactly the ingredients below....

500 gm of minced meat,
100gm of brown sugar,
1 tbsp light soy sauce,
1 tbsp Chinese rice wine,
1 tbsp oyster sauce,
2 tbsp honey,
1/4 tsp black sauce,
1/2 tsp fish sauce,
dash of five spice powder,
salt to taste
dash of pepper
The ingredients...
Mixed everything up and then using the cling wrap, I put inside the fridge for the night....
The next day... the process began....
Flatten the meat on the baking tray...
Bake at 160 degrees for 20 minutes....
Cut into pieces using pizza cutter....
After cutting, turn them over and oven bake them again for 5-10 minutes at 220 degrees..
Depending on the oven and this is the most crucial moment...

Important Tip:
Do not play with your phone at this time...
I nearly burnt my second tray
cos I was deeply engrossed with the whatsapp messages!!

My first tray of Bah Kwa...
So perfectly baked....
Moist, juicy... sweet... and nice...
Almost perfect!!
Except for some odd sizes... otherwise.... can pass gua...
LOL...
The first batch out from the oven....
Can do two trays with the 500gm of meat....
Alright.. so much for the trial run...
This will encourage me to do one more time...
If and when I am "Rajin" again...
Perhaps two days before Chinese New Year!!

Happy Baking!!
