We all know how extremely difficult it is to Travel with kids as it feels like the entire house has to be packed in the bags from diapers and clothes to food and Toys. Entertainment options, unfortunately, while on the road, are indispensable as they are crucial in keeping kids busy and distracted. Luckily, for parents, there are many toys that you can purchase that will achieve that goal. Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind before swiping your card to pay for a plaything.
Look for Small Toys
Small-sized toys take less room in your luggage and are also easy to fish out of your handbag when your baby needs a distraction. They are portable and are convenient to carry around whether it’s for a walk in the park, a train ride or a long flight. However, make sure that there are no small components in toys that can become choking hazards such as beads or buttons.
Toys Should Have Dual or Several Purposes
In choosing toys, getting a multipurpose toy is a better option. Otherwise, you will end up with a sackful of toys that will weigh you down when you need a free arm to hold your baby or keep an eye on older kids. For example, a teething blanket is perfect for kids that can serve as a burp cloth, teething/toy and cover. Stacking/nesting cups as well as plastic blocks will work as well. For older kids you can get them travel size drawing boards that can keep them occupied during lengthy journeys.
Easy to Clean
Toys that are easy to clean with a simple wipe are ideal for traveling. Kids are bound to get messy while on the road whether spilling their drinks on the tray table or on their clothes. Toys that can be cleaned using water are ideal so that the kids can use them again. If you have crayons and sheets of paper as activity boards, ensure that you have adequate replacement in case they are ruined by water, dirt or spills.
You don’t really want to buy toys that make annoying noises that will disturb fellow passengers or even yourself when driving the car. Some examples of these types of entertainment include stickers, photo books and foam books. If you can’t find toys that you think are suitable for your kids, consider making some. As you are in the best position to know what your children like the most, making your own travel bag of toys might just keep the little ones constantly amused throughout the trip.
