What to do in New York City for free?

Central Park

Central Park in New York for me is the best place to go to if you want to find attractions that can be enjoyed for free. You can spend a lot of time exploring the place and stay for a family picnic. During the summer you can find Summer Stage, concerts and Shakespeare in the Park. If you are there during the winter, there are also fun activities like ice skating. No matter when you visit it I’m sure you will find something fun to do.

Brooklyn Bridge

It is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the country. It has been so important for New York City for so many years that it was declared a National Historic Landmark.  You can cross it on foot, by bicycle or car.

The place is such a transited and important junction that some call it “The Crossroads of the World”. You can look at its many ads, light busyness, and even fun sights without having to spend a dime.

Staten Island Ferry

This nonvehicular ferry takes you for a 25-minute ride between Lower Manhattan and Staten Island. The ride provides great views of the New York Harbor, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Where else are you going to find a trip like this one for free?

This is a 6.6-hectare complex that has 29 indoor and outdoor performance facilities. You have to pay to go in and watch the shows that are put on. But you can go there and explore on your own without having to spend a cent. And in the summer there are free concerts by the main fountain.

Wall Street

This is the first home of the New York Stock Exchange. For some, it might not sound exciting, but for trading junky like me, it is iconic. Visiting Wall Street and looking at the buildings where many important finances used to be is very exciting.
