Climate and Geography

1,200 miles off the coast of Africa, Mauritius is home to multiracial, multilingual, and multicultural citizens. It is a small, but thriving island southeast of the African continent, and east of Madagascar.

Mauritius has two seasons: winter and summer. The temperature differences, thanks to its geographical location, are evident in its central plateau and coastal areas. The coolest months in Mauritius are from June to August, while the hottest are from December to February

The northern part of Mauritius flaunts several tourist zones like the Grand Bay, and the Ssr Botanical Garden more. The Grand Bay is found in the district of Rivière du Rempart, and is known for its crystal-clear waters, dynamic spirit day and night, and its offered tourist-friendly escapades. There you can try outdoor nature activities like swimming, windsurfing, sailing, and water skiing. Night owls and party-goers will also love the thriving nightlife in the Grand Bay.

The SSR Botanical Garden, built in the 1770, is dubbed as the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere. There you will see giant waterlilies, several varieties of palms from all over the world, ebonies, and numerous other indigenous and remote plants.

In the east, you can visit the Flacq District where you will find its famous open air market filled with locals and tourists. There you will see various merchandises for sale. A great thing about this market is you can bargain prices, and go home with souvenirs in hand!

Another place to visit in the east is the Ile aux Cerfs. This small and high-end island is privately owned, and is known for its several watersports, breathtaking ocean views, and vast gold course, and 5-star service.

Try the Flic en Flac, Martello Towers, and Chamarel when visiting the West. The Flic en Flac has one of the longest public white sand beaches, a perfect venue for picnics and beach volleyball and football.

For history buffs, you may enjoy a visit to the Martello Towers. Commonly known as Martellos, this site is home to defensive forts built during the French Revolutionary Wars. It towers for about 40 feet high with heavily built walls at 8 feet thick.

For those who want captivating views of nature, the Chamarel is the perfect place to visit. There lies the Charamel Falls, Black River Gorges National Park, and Seven Colored Earths.

In the south lies the Ile Aux Aigrettes and the Rochester Falls. The Ile aux Aigrettes is a naturally reserved island successfully restored and is now considered an international standard in terms of wildlife protection. Meanwhile, the Rochester Falls is especially popular for young visitors for the thrill of the diving at 33 ft.

Thanks to the thriving industry in the country, Mauritius jobs are at an all-time high for tourism-related professions, and for various fields as well – finance, administrative, Information Technology, consultancy, and marketing.
