Civil Engineering Jobs for Those That Like to Travel

Travel Experta, Expat Mama, Educator and Entrepreneur - Inspiring Families to New Horizons

When you think about Civil Engineering, the first thing that comes to mind is not likely that you are going to be traveling a lot.  However, if you break down what a civil engineer is actually doing, traveling for the job makes sense.  If you love to travel to new locations, getting your degree in civil engineering might be a good path for you to take after you graduate high school.  Here we are going to take a look at a few of the jobs you can get that allow for the most travel to new locations.

Engineering Consultant

Depending on the type of engineering degree that you have, you could start your own business as a consultant and work for other companies.  Many large companies require engineers to travel to new locations where they are building or have operations to oversee new construction and things like that.  If you are your own boss, you can make all of the rules and where you travel is entirely up to you at that point.

Project Manager for Construction Firm

Believe it or not, you can earn your civil engineering degree online and work for just about any large scale construction company as a project manager.  These large construction companies take on large projects all over the state they are located in and require a project manager to see it through to the end.  If traveling around the state you live in seems like a fun way to earn your income, this might be something to consider once you get your degree.  Project managers have to be on site and that might include many days of travel at one time, so this type of job might not be a good fit if you like to be home with the family a lot.

Field Engineer

As you can imagine, being a field engineer means that you are in the field and that will require that you travel for your job.  Depending on the firm that you work for will dictate where you are going to be traveling to, but you can count on some travel for work.  Not all engineering jobs are entry level and that is why getting your masters degree is a great idea.  That bumps you up to the next level and prepares you for advanced engineering jobs and advancement.

If you are going to put the time and money into getting your online civil engineering degree or masters degree in civil engineering, then you are going to want to get the best job available for your education.  That is always the ultimate goal, but sometimes that does not work out in the end.  Depending on where you live in the country, Civil Engineering Jobs might not be readily available.  This will force you to think about taking a job outside of your education.  If this takes a few years that is not a problem as it will give you time to master your craft and get prepared for the job you want to make a career of.
