A Spotlight on Lion Square Lodge

A Spotlight on Lion Square Lodge

Earlier this year, the Chalets USA team took a visit to Vail in Colorado for a gorgeous few Bluebird days. Amongst other things, we skied the incredible Back Bowls, stayed in the beautiful Lions Square Lodge and had an amazing time in the villages at Vail itself. However, after a long day skiing and browsing the eateries, arguably the most important part of the ski holiday is where you go to relax and lay your head.

With an amazing concierge service and daily housekeeping, the check-in process was made seemingly effortless. Simply hand over your car keys for your luggage to be taken to your room, and your car parked. This meant that we could go skiing straight away without even stepping into our apartment. Having these things taken care of is what you need when you should be worrying about your ski route! Secondly, the quality of the rooms were outstanding, beautiful king and queen beds, spacious living areas with modern appliances and subtle decorative touches. Free Wi-Fi, an extensive selection of TV and movies, comfortable sofas and family entertainment are all included to make evenings even more tranquil.

The onsite restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and is a chameleon for each mealtime: breakfast, lunch, dinner and après ski. ‘El Sabor’ is an gourmet Mexican experience not to be bypassed. Generous portions and tasty traditional plates make for a quiet evening meal that are best accompanied by one of their fusion Margaritas. We particularly enjoyed the Rellenos, stuffed peppers in a delicious sauce, which comes with a side of your choice. Aside from this as an obvious place to eat, Lions Square Lodge is in the centre of Lionshead Village where you can access family favourites such as Blue Moose Pizza and Garfinkel’s. A company favourite is the amazing chocolates and hot drinks that come from Rimini, the gelato parlour and café that is beneath the next door hotel, The Arrabelle.

Much of the experience of Lions Square Lodge is in the amenities, outdoor heated pools and hot tubs, saunas and a state of the art fitness centre. All of these are provided to make sure that you can stay your best on your ski holiday, if that’s what you want. However, you can kick back and relax into the soothing heat of the pool and hot tubs to cure the aches of a tough powder day. These aqua experiences also sit at the base of the mountain, so the view at dust is outstanding.

Being directly opposite the Eagle Bahn gondola means that the South and East units are truly ski in ski out (while the North tower is a really short walk). We made full use of the ski valet at Lion Square Lodge. After making our last turns as we skied over the skier bridge, we stepped out of our skis and handed them right to the ski valet who stored them for us, before offering us drinks & cookies! It really does take the worry out of your skiing experience, making stressful situations of wondering where you can put on your skis or where to store them completely void. The ease of the mountain and ambience of the environment is tremendous.

Conclusively, Lions Square Lodge is an outstanding property that was a privilege to stay in, made even better by exceptional staff that go above and beyond to make life easy on a ski holiday.
