Sheridan Lake Campground, Custer, South Dakota

We booked this place as a last minute itinerary change and we were thrilled with our decision! This moderately sized lake is located just south of Rapid City and North of Custer in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Close by you will find Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore memorials along with tons of touristy options and towns. All campsites here are within arms reach of the lake and many are steps from the water's edge. Almost all sites have views of the lake. The campground is forested with pines and also has small meadows of blooming wildflowers. Camp hosts are friendly and busy keeping sites tidy. While many sites are reservable, there are a good amount of lakefront sites that are first come, first served. Interior roads are paved and site pads are fairly level dirt pads. Firepits and picnic tables are at each site. All sites are spacious and offer decent privacy between each other. The lake here is gorgeous and the water during our stay was a pleasant 73 degrees, making it perfect to dip into. Fishing and watersports are popular here. There are several docks, a boat launch, and a marina here. The marina (not within walking distance) offers boat, tube, kayak, and pedal boat rentals along with a nicely stocked store with beer, snacks, bait and fishing supplies.
