Near the Rohtas district of Bihar, the Fort of the Afghan ruler Sher Shah Suri, which is called ‘Shergarh Fort.’ There are hundreds of tunnels and dungeons in this fort, and no one knows where the tunnels open. This is the same fort where the Mughal rulers massacred Sher Shah Suri and his family by killing them.

The Mysterious Architecture of the Shergarh Fort

The fort present on the hills of Kaimur in Sasaram, Bihar, has been built so that no one can see it from outside and is surrounded by high walls.

On one side of this fort is the river Durgavati; forests on the other side surround it. There are several tunnels to go inside. If the tunnels are closed, then this fort is not even visible.

The dungeons here are so big that up to 10 thousand soldiers can come in them. Sher Shah built such a fort to avoid his enemies and to stay safe.

The rooms here have also been made according to the security. The enemy could also be seen coming from 10 km away in every direction from the fort. It could store food and water for many days in the basements present here.

What is the secret behind the Shergarh Fort Tunnels?

Shergarh Fort belongs to 400 years old and is built-in tunnels to go outside the fort in times of trouble. At the same time, they built dungeons to punish the enemies. Thousands of tunnels built in it are not like any other fort, and because of these tunnels, Sher Shah liked this fort very much. Only Sher Shah and some of his trusted soldiers knew the secret of these tunnels. One of these tunnels leads to Rohtas Fort. From this, the soldiers used to go far in the mountains without seeing the enemies. About the rest of the tunnels, no one knows where they open.

Massacre Took Place in the Tunnels

The reason for being afraid to go to this fort is the thousands of murders that took place in it. It is said that when the Mughals came to know about this fort, they attacked it. Humayun, the ruler of the Mughals, brutally threw the entire family of Sher Shah into the Durgavati river flowing below the fort. Along with this, thousands of soldiers were killed by trapping them inside the tunnels in the fort.

The soldiers did not know the secret of the tunnels, and the Mughals did not give them a chance to escape. No one lived in this palace after this great massacre. Even today, people are afraid to go here alone.

History of Shergarh Fort

The history of this fort is not found anywhere well, but some historians have told that this fort was earlier ruled by the Rajput king Shahbad, whose tomb is nearby in the city of Sasaram. Later this fort was handed over to the Afghan ruler Sher Shah Suri. This fort is located 32 km away from Sasaram.

According to some historians, it was gifted to him by Kharwar Raja Gajapati, a good friend of Sher Shah.

Sher Shah was an Orthodox Muslim ruler, so the dance hall present in this fort does not seem to belong to Sher Shah’s rule. It is also said that after capturing Rohtas Fort, Sher Shah had an eye on this fort, and it was also taken under his control by Sher Shah. Hence, it was also called Nawabgarh.

Sher Shah’s Treasure in the Fort

It is said that Sher Shah had many mines, which he used to get gold and silver coins made. One of them was in the fort of Shergarh.

Sher Shah’s treasure is hidden somewhere in this fort, which was never found. Due to fear of going to this fort, no one has tried till date. So that treasure is still buried here, and even the Mughal invaders could not find it.
