“Life is a song – sing it. Life is a game – play it. Life is a challenge – face it. Life is a dream – realize it. Life is a sacrifice – offer it. Life is love – enjoy it”, this is one of the many famous life hacks that were followed by the miraculous man- Shirdi Sai Baba. He was a common man yet possessed with supernatural powers- no not literally! But, the blissfulness and understanding of life he had, turned him into a spiritual master among his devotees. He was an Indian and took birth as a normal human being, but his lifestyle and ideologies turned him into a religious leader later in his life as he traveled to places and reached out to people to show them the right path.
Earlier days in the life of Shirdi Sai Baba:
The actual birthplace of Sai Baba is still not so clear yet, but it is believed that he was born nearby a village known as Shirdi in the Maharashtra state of India. He spent his childhood at this place and reportedly shifted to the main village of Shirdi when he was 16 years old. He spent his teenage days in performing meditation and sitting motionless under a neem tree in this village which left the villagers awestruck. His strong willpower to meditate did not deter him from doing so even when the weather was heavily cold or hot. This drew the common people towards being his disciple at a very young age.
His practices were worthy and fulfilling:
Unlike other religious leaders, Shirdi Sai Baba never opposed the preaching of any other religion. He always encouraged people of every caste and creed to follow their own religious ways of praying. To Muslims, he preached the Quran and to Hindus, he guided them to follow the verses of Ramayana and Bhagavad Gita. He believed in equality of all human beings and did charity all throughout his life to help the needy. He told people that “God is one” (Sabka malik Ek) and reiterated on having faith in the humanity and to patiently wait for the fruit of their deeds. His teachings included the performance of a man’s duty without being attached to worldly pleasures and without expecting anything in return. Good deeds will always pay off- this is what he taught his followers. He always kept humanity above every religious sentiments and belief. These teachings earned him the tag of a spiritual leader.
He traveled the world but settled in Shirdi:
The great religious preacher traveled many places but settled in a place where he spent his childhood between his devotees. The Shirdi Sai temple is also situated there and people from various parts of the world still visit this place with love and affection for him. His sculpture is articulated modestly with costly pieces of jewelry and the Vedic deities of the Hindu religion. People seek his blessings there and find solace in being a disciple of him.
Though Shirdi Sai Baba was a Hindu religious leader and followed this religion he never made any differentiation between any caste and creed. he used to preach the good things from every religion- be it Islam, Christianity or Hinduism. To him, humanity came first before anything else. Even after his death on October 15th, 1918, he is still revered by his followers to find the path towards enlightenment of the soul.
