What to see in Malta

Mdina and Rabat

The annals of Mdina traces back again more than 4000 years. Regarding to traditions it was here that in 60 A.D. that the Apostle St. Paul is thought to have resided after being shipwrecked on the hawaiian islands. Furthermore it is stated that St. Paul resided inside the grotto know as Fuori le Mura (outside the location surfaces) now known as St. Paul's Grotto in Rabat. Light fixture lit by night time and known as “the silent city”, Mdina is amazing to visit because of its classic atmosphere as well as its social and spiritual treasures.
Mdina has already established different brands and game titles depending on its rulers and its own role but its middle ages name express it best – ‘Citta' Notabile': the commendable city.

It had been home then, as now, to Malta's commendable people; some are descendants of the Norman, Sicilian and Spanish overlords who made Mdina their house from the 12th hundred years onwards. Impressive palaces line its small, shady streets.

Mdina is one of Europe's finest types of a historical walled city and outstanding in its mixture of middle ages and baroque structures.

Like local Mdina, Rabat performed a significant role in Malta's previous and is also a prime way to obtain its cultural traditions.

This large provincial township was area of the Roman city of Melita, with the websites and archaeological relics found testifying to the town's importance through the Roman period.

For many decades, religious orders established themselves within the precincts of Rabat and Franciscans, Dominicans and Augustinians still flourish within their spacious convents and monasteries, providing for the spiritual needs of parishioners in their churches.

The city is a commercial centre and operates as market to its large agricultural hinterland. Additionally it is more developed on the vacationer map because of its archaeological and historical sites: The Roman Villa (Domus Romana), catacombs, St. Paul's Grotto and the fine churches and monasteries.

The Three Cities

The Three Cities offer an interesting information into Malta and its own history. Left basically unvisited, these metropolitan areas are a cut of traditional life and a glance into Malta's maritime fortunes.

The Three Cities can rightly declare to be the cradle of Maltese background, as Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua have provided a home and fortress to nearly every people who resolved on the hawaiian islands.

Their harbour inlets have been around in use since Phoenician times: the docks always providing a full time income for residents, but also giving them susceptible when Malta's rulers were at battle. As the first home to the Knights of St. John, the 3 Metropolitan areas' palaces, churches, forts and bastions are considerably more than Valletta's.

The local areas here observe holy times and festas as nowhere else on the hawaiian islands. The most impressive events will be the Easter processions when statues of the “Risen Christ” are taken at a tell you crowded streets.
