Huge Tourism Investment Proposals for Sri Lanka – Multiple-entry Tourist Visa Also Introduced

In January this year, it was announced that Sri Lanka had received applications for tourism investments that totalled more than one billion USD. This was significant given the challenges faced by the country during the pandemic, while also highlighting the tremendous tourism potential. During a two-year period, this South Asian nation had received 99 Tourism Investment Proposals; at the time, 59 projects had been approved with a total value of approximately 300 million USD.

In a further development, the Ministry of Tourism announced on 8th March 2022 that a one-year multiple-entry tourist visa would also be introduced; this is to be provided for a fee of 200 USD and would include the chance to enter the country multiple times a year. Such measures bode well as the country looks to get tourism back on track with quarantine free entry for fully-vaccinated travellers who can head to popular destinations like Kandy; boutique hotels here including the likes of Mountbatten Bungalow have adopted stringent health and hygiene protocols while offering an ideal base to explore Sri Lanka’s hill country.
