A must-visit in Kandy, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

Peradeniya is a suburb of Kandy, Sri Lanka, and it’s home to the largest botanical Garden in the country. Yes, it’s Peradeniya Botanical Garden and you can’t miss out on this attraction during your Kandy exploration.

The historical facts

Did you know that this garden dates back to 1371? Initially, this garden was owned by a queen, and then in the 18th century, a Kandyan Prince considered this his residential property. The British Empire, in the 1800s, decided to declare it as a Botanical Garden.

The location

The best thing about the geographical location of the garden is that it’s surrounded by the Mahaveli River (the longest river in Sri Lanka) on 3 sides. The garden spans an area of 60 hectares.
