Visit Galle Face – A Coastal Park that is one of the Biggest Public Spaces in Sri Lanka

Galle Face is one of the most famous attractions in Colombo, and is a unique experience. It also has a very interesting history so you can experience the island’s culture and heritage at one place.

A Brief History

The ground was initially created as a naval defensive measure by the Portuguese so they can place their canons to target any foreign invaders. It was later converted to a promenade by the British and became a popular recreational space while also being utilised as a cricket ground on many occasions.

Sports

During the early days of Galle Face, the ground was used for a range of sporting events, encompassing horse-racing, golf, rugby and of course, cricket. Golf was introduced to Sri Lanka by expatriates at Galle Face Green.

Street Food Galore

If you wish to experience some of the best that Sri Lankan street food has to offer, then this is the place to visit. Nana’s is one of the city’s most famous eateries, and is situated along the Galle Face strip. Given its centralised location, reaching Galle Face is incredibly easy, especially if you plan to care hire. Sri Lanka has many places where you can procure your own vehicle, such as Car Booking Sri Lanka.

Metropolitan Coast

If you wish to experience some beach therapy without leaving the city, then this is one of the best places to do so. There are a couple of jetties and a lighthouse where you can relax and enjoy the sunset.

Intrigued by history, art and food, Lavinia Woolf is a writer who is passionate about the extraordinary and writes of the exhilarating and enchanting. Google+
