The Maldives is one of the most frequently visited countries in Southeast Asia as it has everything you can dream of about a tropical island destination – including amazing food! Maldivian cuisine is one of the main attractions in the country and being an island, the Maldives is home to some of the best seafood dishes in the world.

Food with unique Maldivian flavours

Garudhiya

Garudhiya is a dish that you can find in any restaurant or hotel in the country including famous resorts like Nova Maldives. This is the unofficial national dish of the country and something that is had in most households on a daily basis. Made with the Garudhiya fish combined with spices and onions this is one dish that you must try when in the Maldives.

Mashuni

A popular dish that is eaten with roti and rice for breakfast and it is made with shredded Tuna and scraped coconut and then mixed with diced coconuts, dried chillies, a few drops of lemon and some Maldive fish.

 

Masroshi

Masroshi is commonly found in restaurants in Maldives as it is a popular food around the country. This roti-like dish is similar to flat-bred that has a filling made with tuna, ginger, onions, garlic, curry leaves and spices.

Gulha

Gulha is the Maldivian version of Dumplings and it is a delightful snack that is filled with tuna and coconut filling with a crunchy coating. This is mainly eaten in the afternoon with tea or coffee.
