Culture of Maldives

Before Travelling to the Maldives, it is essential to learn about culture and religion, so you are able to abide by these rules and enjoy the vacation.

Conservative practices

Even though the Maldives is a tropical destination, you should not be dressing provocatively when in public. If you are staying at one of the best all inclusive resorts in Maldives or private hotels, you can wear tank tops and shorts and dress freely but remember to cover up in public.

Alcohol is prohibited

At private resorts and hotels such as OZEN Reserve Bolifushi, you will be able to consume liquor if you wish to do so, but drinking alcohol in public is prohibited.

Weekend is altered

Friday is a holy day in Muslim countries since most people go to the mosque for prayers; due to this reason, the weekend falls on Friday and Saturday – and Sunday is the first day of the work week.

Family comes first

If you were travelling on business or for leisure and invited to the home of a Maldivian, keep in mind that it is a mark of respect as they consider you a friend. Their home is a safe and sacred place, and family is the most important aspect for Maldivians.
