By: Sam Clarke

Australia’s Northern Territory is one of the most unique and incredible travel experiences that anyone can have. It’s full of culture, beautiful landscapes, cascading waterfalls and stunning hidden gems. It’s a place that will leave a long-lasting impact on you and will have you yearning to go back. To spark your inspiration here are 10 places you need to visit if you are looking for numerous double-taps on your Instagram feed.

1) Uluru – Ayers Rock

First and of course… Uluru! No trip to the Northern Territory is complete without an #instagram sunrise or sunset photo of Uluru. Make sure you set your alarm early cause this is one sight you don’t want to sleep through. Witnessing the sky around Uluru is an awe-inspiring experience as it presents with a beautiful spectrum of bright colours and shadows casting off the big “red” rock.

2) Kings Canyon - Watarkka National Park

One of my favourite spots in the Northern Territory is Kings Canyon. Kings Canyon, also known as Watarkka National Park is a spectacular spot offering a fantastic walk around the upper platform of the canyon. Once you get to the top you can see for miles – it is truly breathtaking. As you wander along the red sandy path you can find yourself lost in the beautiful textures and patterns engraved into the rock formations.

3) Kata Tjuta – the Olgas

Just a few kilometres away from Uluru is its less known companion, Kata Tjuta or otherwise known as “The Olgas”. A popular walk in the outback - the “Valley of the Winds” walk is a beautiful track that leads you through the various rock and gorges of Kata Tjuta. As you continue to make your way along the track you will stumble upon beautiful lookout points into the distance.

4) Ellery Creek Big Hole

A place that took me for complete surprise was the Ellery Creek Big Hole in the West MacDonnell Ranges. While there you can enjoy a picnic overlooking the red cliffs or go for a swim in the waterhole of this sandy creek. This place will definitely blow you away and well worth a visit while in the NT.

5) Mindil Markets Sunset

Looking for spectacular sunsets night in and night out? Well Darwin’s Mindil Beach Sunset Market will not disappoint. With hints of red, orange, yellow and pinks – you won't need to slap an Instagram filter on these photos!

6) Twin Falls & Jim Jim Falls

Kakadu National Park is Australia’s largest national park covering over 20000 square kilometres. Since it is such a remote, vast area; it is advisable to spend a couple days to explore. The best way to experience the true beauty is by four-wheel driving. Both only accessible by 4WD, at Jim Jim Falls you have the opportunity to go for swim in the plunge pool, whereas at Twin Falls you will enjoy viewing this sight on a boat cruise along the gorge.

7) Buley Rockholes

Located in the heart of Litchfield National Park you will stumble upon the Buley Rockholes. It’s the perfect day trip if you are short on time in the Top End. The Buley Rockhole is a chain of waterfalls and rock pools, where you can find your own little spot to sit, relax and swim.

8) Gunlom Falls

On the other side of Kakadu you will find an absolute gem, Gunlom Falls. What is unique about this place is the natural infinity pool that lies at the top. Make sure you don’t forget your bathers because in the summer Top End heat you will want the chance to chill out and relax in this gorgeous natural pool. Not to mention you will be treated to stunning views overlooking the Kakadu region.

9) Karlu Karlu - Devil Marbles

Found 100km south of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory is the Devils Marbles. These large granite boulders are precariously teetering on top of one another, appearing to defy gravity. They are perfect for climbing and even better for Instagramming.

10) Katherine Gorge

Katherine Gorge can be explored via foot, boat, kayak or helicopter. Whichever form of transportation you choose you will be treated to breath-taking vast landscapes of the Nitmiluk National Park. Here you can find stunning gorges and cascading waterfalls that will steal the show on your Instagram feed.
