The Beach Bar in Panwa Beach
The Beach Bar is a local restaurant half hidden on Panwa beach, away from most the tourist crowds. Once a modest wooden shack, the restaurant grew in popularity and now displays a long row of tables and plastic chairs. Set between Panwa Boutique Beach Resort and Dream Sea Pool Villa, the restaurant is still mostly made of wood pillars with thatched roof on the beach.
What makes The Beach Bar unique is its location, right on the beach with the seafront so close that some tables and stools are set to be standing in the water at high tide. As the Beach Bar is on the east coast, the sun sets just opposite of the restaurant, making it a good place for your sunset shot. One the sun has set, don’t go yet and enjoy the blue hour with warm lights set on wooden perch above the tables.
Drinks are really cheap: a Singha is 55 baht, a Heineken 60 baht and a Leo or a Chang Beer is only 50 Baht. Soft drinks are 20 baht and one of those delicious local coconuts 45 baht.
The food is good without being really exceptional but who cares, it’s all about the setting and nothing beats a drink with your bare feet in the sand and a sun setting in front of you.
It’s really cheap: a fried rice or some fried noodles with beef or chicken will cost you no more than 50 baht. The popular ‘fried rice in a pineapple’ is 100 baht, always a popular choice for travelers (not so much for locals )
Of course the classic Thai dishes are available and you should go for these: Tom Yum Koong, Tom Ka Gai… and the all time favourite: Pad Thai Koong… about 70 Baht
The Beach Restaurant also serves squid, king prawns, Phuket lobster, crab and many way to prepare local fish the way people love it: barbecued, sweet and sour, deep fried or steamed. The price is per weight depending on the market price, which makes it quite difficult to estimate the final cost.
To get there you will need wheels as it in the Panwa area, about 22 km from Patong Beach, 8 km from Phuket town and 32 km from Bangtao Beach.
The Beach bar has an ample parking space but the way down and up is a little steep. Most important, remember to be there way before 6 p.m. to get a table or all of these will be suddenly crowded starting 5:45 pm!
