Japanese studio TAKT PROJECT created a collection of design accessories which aims to reframe of method of designing electrical appliances. The COMPOSITION series treats electronic components as the ingredients of a new material: a clear acrylic resin holds and protects electrical parts which seem to float without a circuit board but are actually connected by a special ultra-fine wire.

“Wood is whittled to make furniture while clay is molded to make utensils… Hence, there’s no reason not to treat electrical parts as a component of a combined material" said TAKT PROJECT‘s founder Satoshi Yoshiizumi.

Resin is generally used to create external shells protecting the hidden electronic part. The Composition collection breaks this rule by meshing it with chips and wires to create “a pure object that seems to rise up out of the materials”.

The collection comprises vases, torches and lamps. Implemented features  include wireless charging and ON/OFF switching through inclination sensing. Lightings can be dimmed by a remote control as well.

The composite material is conductive. The electronic components actually work and the material can be established as a product. “At what point does a material stops being such and becomes a product? The Composition project aims to challenge this separation. The material is the product”, comments Satoshi Yoshiizumi.
