2015 was definitely a year of firsts... there was cutting my Hair for the first time in over a decade, getting married, and of course, leaving my day job to go full-time with my little corner of the Internet. There were highs and there were lows, but thankfully good times prevailed and 2015 proved to be one of the most memorable years of my life, both personally and professionally. So in the spirit of reflection, here are some of my favourite posts of 2015... and be sure to read on for a special announcement at the end!
As previously mentioned, 2015 was the first time my hair got a good cut in a disgusting number of years, and I Love looking back on these pictures because they make me remember the intense nervousness I felt before sitting in that hairdresser's chair. It's funny how at the time I thought my hair was so incredibly short, but having since gone considerably shorter, I don't know if I can see myself growing it that long ever again! It's funny how our perspectives change... and speaking of funny, I remember this shoot being particularly cold and icy, and that Sandy had to help me walk over to this wall because, as it turns out, stilettos and ice aren't actually the best combo (who knew?)
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
After six years (!!!) together and having been engaged for nearly three of them, Mr. AiF and I finally tied the knot in August of 2015. These photos were taken a couple days before the Wedding itself, and they make me so happy to look at because despite being super stressed (which we were, BIG TIME), we just look so happy. For a sneak peek at what our wedding looked like, here's a post about our flowers — full wedding recap coming in the new year!
4 TIPS FOR GROWING YOUR PINTEREST
I also started getting more and more interested in writing about Blogging itself in 2015, and this post kicked off a blogging tips series that carried on throughout the year. The most exciting of which was the one about making the transition to blogging full-time (5 SIGNS YOU SHOULD GO FULL-TIME) — now THERE'S a post I waited over six years to write!
Culottes made up the bulk of my 2015 wardrobe, and this playsuit version really was the icing on the cake... not to mention the fact that this wall is pure blogger gold. #justsaying
ALL ABOUT THAT BASE
2015 also turned out to be a year of makeup hoarding, and my foundation collection grew considerably as a result... I guess you could say that this post prompted a year of subsequent beauty-related tips. And as luck would have it, 2015 also became the year I scored my first pair of Valentino Rockstuds, and at a thrift store no less (GOODWILL HUNTING)! I think it's safe to say that this will go down as the greatest score of my life.
No reason, just a sweet culotte co-ord in an even sweeter location (seriously though, Elk Island is dreamy)
MAKE YOUR OWN HAIR TIES
The number of DIY projects appearing on the site died down a bit in 2015 (what can I say, my creative well went dry), but this was my favourite project of the year simply for the fact that it was so easy and a such great way to save money on hair ties (you wouldn't believe how many you can make for the price of one package at Sephora!). I guess you guys liked it too, because it turned out to be the most popular DIY of the year (and in the top 10 for all-time most popular project).
3 ACCESSORIES TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT
2015 was also the year I started to get more conscious about where my clothing, shoes and accessories were coming from and the conditions under which they were made, so I love this post because it let me share a few brands that are getting it right. If you guys are interested, I would love to continue the conversation about sustainable, responsible fashion in the new year!
EASY FALL APPLE TARTS
A total departure for me, this ridiculously easy recipe I whipped up with Ashley was hands down the most fun I had all year in terms of styling and photographing a post. There's just something about food photography that gets me super excited, probably because it's still very new to me and it involves sourcing all kinds of pretty props... expect many more recipes to come in 2016!
Which brings me to one final piece of information (and if you've read this far, you deserve a serious pat on the back) — I've decided to do something I haven't done in over six years of running this site, and that's to take an actual break this holiday season! I've always felt the need to have content ready and waiting for you to enjoy over the holidays, but I realized that in order to create the best material I can, I need a little recharge from time to time. I have a lot of fun plans for Adventures in Fashion in 2016, so please join me back here on Jan. 4 for a return to daily posting — and in the meantime, happy holidays! xx
