- Vinegar Soak
Vinegar or lemon juice is also a great method to getting rid of those pesticides. Use a large bowl and fill it up with one part vinegar and four parts water. You can then soak your produce in this bowl like the last method for 30-60 minutes and then scrub with cold water. - Homemade Fruit & Veggie Spray
If you don’t find yourself with an hour to soak your produce in salt water or vinegar, then the next best bet is using a homemade fruit & veggie spray. This includes a tablespoon of lemon juice, two tablespoons of white vinegar, and a cup of water. Mix this all up into a glass spray bottle and then you will be able to spray this onto your produce for fresh and clean fruits & veggies.
- Peel & Trim
Depending on the produce you are dealing with, this method might not work. Peeling and trimming only works with those produce items with skin, but is a great method for getting rid of chemical residue. Those fruits and veggies with skin are going to have all of the pesticides on the skin. Therefore, getting rid of that skin is going to rid the produce of anything you don’t want entering your body.
- Avoid Dish Soap & Bleach
Whenever you’re washing your fruits and veggies, you want to stay clear of using dish soap and bleach. That’s because the pores of your produce can actually absorb these materials into the fruits and veggies themselves. That’s no good because that will actually add to the chemicals you’re trying to remove.
