Twinkle Little Star Baby Shower
It’s no secret we love parties and celebrations around here. So, when my best friend announced she was pregnant with her second child I knew a Baby shower was in order. I previously held a Shower for her first born, and I know not everyone throws a shower for a second baby, but we love celebrating in this family!
I wanted to throw a baby shower that my friend would love, but I also needed to be budget-conscious as well. Baby showers can become expensive very quickly. I wanted to find ways to save money without having it look like I cut any corners. This was going to be a challenge, but a challenge that would be fun! I was up to the task and couldn’t wait to get started on the plans.
While the first baby shower was large and I went all out, I decided that this time around the shower should be more of an intimate affair and nothing over the top. With the first shower, I had a lot of help from many hostesses that were greatly involved. But for the second shower, I wanted it to be close friends and family only, while still having a great celebration of the bundle of joy that was going to be arriving soon! Since the shower would be smaller and my friend has a great house for hosting, we decided to host it at her home to save money and not have to rent out a location.
My friend chose not to know the gender of her baby, so the shower was going to have to be planned as a gender-neutral shower. But no problem as I have grown to love neutral colors lately! Well, I thought there wouldn’t be any problems. But I quickly found out that, even though neutrals are very in right now, it didn’t hold true for baby showers.
I searched for decorations and party supplies at some local party shops and big box stores, but I couldn’t find anything that I thought was just perfect. So, I enlisted the help of my sister, the crafty one! I just had to use my resources!
I brainstormed a lot of different themes, and I really loved the Twinkle Little Star theme, but so many items that I found online were blues and pinks. I imagined gold and white for the star theme and thought it would look perfect. I found some cute party cutlery with gold stars online. Perfect! Until I looked at the price and realized that the steep cost for 8 small plates was a bit over budget. I couldn’t spend half my budget on cutlery, so I opted for white tablecloths, plates, cups and napkins. Way too much white! To add some flair, I had my sister make different sizes of gold stars with her Cricut machine and I sprinkled them on the table cloth. I loved how it turned out; light and crisp while not being over the top.
My sister also made me a banner that I hung on the fireplace along with a printable that helped identify and go with the theme of the shower to place in the living room. I only organized a couple of games and created some printables for each game. One was an alternative to a guestbook where attendees would fill out a star with a wish for baby. The other printable was an “About Me” card for everyone to fill out. My friend really loved the “About Me” card as everyone had a different opinion on what this little one would look like, or when it would arrive.
On to the treats! I knew that in addition to the food, I wanted to include a sweets table since I was having little décor, and I made it the main focal point. I added some apothecary jars, a three-tiered glass tray, and vintage white serving bowls that had belonged to my late grandmother. It gave the table a vintage feel which I loved. I purchased white and caramel popcorn to fill the jars with. I also found some cute glass star bowls at the local Dollar Store and filled them with gold Hershey Kisses and white KitKats.
I had a vision for the cake in my mind, but knew that it would be expensive. I decided that, because this event was going to be small, a tiered cake wasn’t needed. A sheet cake was going to be fine and provide enough for everyone. I wanted it to match the décor, but I couldn’t find any pre-ordered cakes that fit the theme. I contacted a local grocery store, Publix, and they were happy to try to replicate any cake, as best they could, if I brought them a sample of what I was looking for. They did an amazing job replicating the exact cake that I provided a sample of. The cake was delicious and matched great!
The shower turned out lovely and everyone (most importantly my friend) had a great day, enjoying the shower. By keeping the decorations simple and creating my own pieces to go with the theme, I was able to save a lot of money. My goal was to throw a wonderful baby shower without breaking the bank. Mission accomplished!
